Alright, I will repeat it for you since you are new to the machine...

1 - Get Andy Sabich's book on the E-Trac. Read it AND the owners manual completely before ever turning on your E-Trac.
2 - Take your new detector out and spend and afternoon or day using it. Just put it in a stock mode and don't mess with settings.
3 - Go back re-read the manual and Andy's book. Things will be much clearer now.
4 - Go out and put a solid 10-15 hours of use on the machine. Hunt tot-lots or beaches, or places where it's easy to dig. This will help you learn the responses. Dig it all !!
5 - go over the book sections about changing settings, then think about what you may want to change from the factory settings.
6 - Lasty, DO NOT go back to the old machine. You may feel temped to go back to what you are familiar with, but keep using the E-Trac and you will learn it (If you are having troubles learning the E-Trac that is)

Tenn, I too am new to the ET. Just back back from my second ( quick) trip out. The guys are correct about the book and adapting to the machine, as I did this with my EXP II.... smae beast only different. I actually got very good at identifying targets b y sound with the EXP II, but now relearning on the ET. I hunt in Multi mode cond, now and having trouble because I previously used tones and backed it up with the smartscreen. I can tell you that the machine surely locks in on coins very well. Also, brought a frozen clump of dirt home because I was sure there was a silver coin in it... just a pulltab and a penny. The good thing is the penny came in at a high tone, but didnt' here the PT. Anyway, the machine has to be great, just like the Explorers, but even better. Just gotta get use to it. Good luck and keep me posted, maybe we can help each other learn and bounce thing's off one another. PM me and I'll send my email. Thanx, Mike
