L@@K ...Here is the picture of my wacky SE screen....plus the unstability that comes with it!

THIS POST IS FROM BACK IN 2006...so all is WELL now.
Wonderful...after an hour of frustration and not being able to figure out why I can't get a decent signal...my screen does this! I even tried laying a mercury dime down and passed the coil about 2" to 4" over it. It barely picked it up and was not solid at all...just high pitch jibberish! I knew something wasn't right because no matter how low I took the sensitivity and other settings...I just couldn't get any type of solid signal on anything. Then the screen went pac man on me! Hopefully Minelab will take care of me. I will keep everyone posted. I'm NOT giving up.

Reading some of your old stories Bryce,Looks like you had a rough start .
if you could go back, would you change anything as far as say picking minelabs?
I even read about one screen that split in three places on you.

Of course it could be a bad solder joint to a major problem but to me looks like the mini computer in your unit needs to be rebooted. Contact Minelab as might be an easy fix and if not a trip to the shop. Being an experienced detectorist would assume you tried new batteries, cleaned contacts or even changed coils and good luck as even in the best electronics components go down..
By the way heard of ways of rebooting other screens computers but never heard one for an Explorer so if someone knows let the forum know...

You might try a "cold" reboot Bryce. With the SE running, take the battery out and wait a minute, reinstall, restart. I have noticed with my SE when the battery went dead, I had to reprogram all of my settings. It might not help in your case, but worth a try.

throwin' in the towel:biggrin:

I was so frustrated...I didn't know what to do.

First the computer box was bad and I had one of the documented "split screen" cases...so I sent it in to Minelab and they replaced the box.

A few weeks later I received it back...but it was still not right...because I had one of the bad slimline coils

Sent it in a second time...then received it back with a brand new slimline coil from Minelab.

Tried it in the field for a THIRD time but it still wasn't quite right because the new slimline STILL wasn't performing up to par.

I then tried the Excelerator 12" coil on it...and it really settled down for me.

I then tried it in the field for a fourth time and this time...i had me a deep coin killer.

I started experimenting...piddling...learning...and digging...and never looked back.

Minelab went WELL out of their way to correct the situation for me...so I'm glad I stuck with them:beers:
