Last Friday before all this gorgeous white stuff moved in we had a sunny 51 degree day. I should have stayed home and put up Christmas ornaments but my son and I decided to sneak in one more detecting day before winter really set in.
I had a so - so day with one Silver Mercury dime 1936D, 4 Jefferson Nickles 1960 the oldest, 6 clad dimes, four Copper Memorials, and one 1953D Wheat. I also found my first gold with the E-Trac. Well almost Gold. It was a Ladies Helbros 1/20Th 10K Heavy Gold Plate watch. Sure was a weird signal as the I.D. numbers and the audio response jumped all over the place. It was only about 3 inch's deep and I almost didn't dig it. I wasn't finding much and thought it might be a multiple coin drop so decided to dig it. I have on occasion had these kind of signals and have walked away from them thinking they were just junk. I will dig more of them from now on.
My son had a much better day, ending up with 5 Silver coins including a dateless Standing Liberty Quarter (his first) and a nice 1900 Barber Dime. He has my E-Trac to thank for that coin as he called me over saying he was getting a junk signal and wanted me to check it out. The E-Trac read FE16/CO45-46. I checked the Quick Mask program and got a nice clean signal reading high in the box. When he saw the smile on my face he started digging and was shocked to find such a nice Barber because the history of the property doesn't date near that far back. He also got two Mercury Dimes and a Silver Rosie. It's been a long time since either of us had a five Silver day. My son hunts with my old Fisher CZ-6. It's a good machine that gets really good depth but it's one weak point is nails and iron really inter fear with your targets if they are to close and some times rusty nails or bottle caps will read just like a coin. Even so he beat the pants off me on silver, and it was a great way to end the 2010 hunting season.
From my Family and My Sons Family we wish all of you and your families a Very Merry Christmas, and some really great Holidays.
