Hello again fellow safarians! Been a while so I'll just post a bunch of dirtfishing porn from the past 8 hunts. There are some really interesting / diverse finds, stuff all over the map. The best injun I found is an 1864L, nice shape and a key date to boot.... sweeeet! The bullet was a real head-scratcher, I never expected to pull a live .50 cal round out of the ground! The bottom is stamped SL 43 which means it was made in St Louis in 1943. Then there's the metal rope thing... I don't know if this was a buckle frame or a bracelet of some kind, it'd strange. But it's not as strange as the evil possessed lamb head thing. I was thinking the lamb head thing may have been a saddle ornament. in one are I was finding a good amount of bale seals, they were used for identifying textiles and bales of trade goods.
 
This was a first for me, an antique bicycle bell. I believe it's cast brass with a polished nickel finish, made between 1890-1920, back when the USA used to manufacture nice quality things. I need the bottom piece to complete it and I plan on restoring it. I found a silver ring in small stand of pines, when I showed my hunting buddy he looks at it and says, "cool a coin ring!" I had no idea they had such things and was pleasantly surprised with the added coolness factor of finding a silver ring. It was made from a french silver coin from 1917. One of my coolest finds of all was the Massachusetts Volunteer Militia cuff button, this one's a beauty. I knew what it was as soon as it came out of the ground, this is the second one I've ever found and it's in just as good a shape as the 1st regiment coat button I found. I struggled a bit about cleaning it, but decided to go real slow and see what was left underneath all the crud. I spent about 2.5 hours slooooowwwwwly wiping away, 65 q-tips later and look at her! i also found this nice late 1700's frock button, the gold gilt on this one did not withstand the test of over 250 years in the ground, just little hints left in the crevices.
 
I was detecting the woods around a lake and I got a nice coin signal, i figured it was definitely a large copper or old silver quarter, when i pulled it from the hole I was disappointed it wasn't either one. My hunting partner and I looked at it and saw it was an enameled pin. I figured it was an old boy scout badge. I wiped some of the dirt away and my friend says hey it's a plane crossing the ocean, I joked and said it was probably a Charles Lindbergh pin and tossed it in the pouch. I cleaned it when I got home and guess what... it's a Charles Lindbergh pin! LOL! I researched it online and only got 2 hits, one was the same pin on a Worthpoint auction and the other was from the Charles Lindbergh website. It is the Spirit of St louis making the first transatlantic flight from NY to Paris May 21'st 1927, pretty freakin cool. I also found a Livery Button, a first for me... knew nothing about them, had to do some research and now I know what it is and I have one! There's also an old milk jug seal, and a couple of old toasted coppers, a draped bust and a King George II. well that's all for now, take care HH and fill yer holes.
 
Kschae4 - Settings I use are as follows, custom coin mode, Trash density Low, Scrim - open from 11-39, Sensitivity - 19. I almost always remember what tone a good find sang in at, so here are the #'s. Indian heads - 34, 50 cal round 38, rope bracelet thingie - 37, evil lambs head - 32, lead bale seals 37 (dam i thought they were small silvers every time!) Bicycle bell - 38, silver ring 37, mass militia button - 28, frock button 36-37, Lindbergh pin - 38, Livery button 35-36, old coppers - 38, milk jug tag - 35.

Wish I could dig up something that cool! I suppose I'll just have to wait for my safari :blush:. he he.

And holy cow, I've heard tell of 50 cal rounds, but never have I witnessed one first hand. It's huge!! Can't imagine the damage it could do.....

Man, that's great stuff. What a variety. Its a lot of fun when you are finding that many different and intersting things. Then you get to do the research and that's fun, too.
 
I agree Brookie, researching your finds after a productive hunt is the icing on the cake, doing research to find a new location on the other hand.... not so fun.
 
Nice hunts,must have good ground to hunt 19 I have a few spots not many that I can put sensitivity that high.Cool stuff.
 
Trust me, at 19 it sounds like R2D2 and C3P0 having a domestic dispute but you can read through it, a legitimate target will almost always give a good repeating signal with the safari, the hardest thing about the safari is learning what sounds to ignore.
 
Good analogy on the sounds of 19, I love the MA. militia button. I live in western Ma. that would definitely be on my list of things to find. Well, off to do 2 oil changes and then get permission to swing at an old farm house down the street that is up for sale. Happy Easter All !! Ron:detecting:
