Well, here we are again with a few finds I was able to make around the Hunt I attended on Saturday. I was solo this time out but hopefully I will be back at it with Tim or maybe even Dale this Saturday, that is if Dale is up for some hunting or if Tim is back from his South Dakota Trip. So let's get to it!
Friday, I decided to go do a few boulevards for about an hour and a half since I wasn't doing much of anything anyways. I went back to the same street where street repair is going on and continued my search a block further down. I started out detecting and started to find a Wheat Penny here and there but it took awhile. It's amazing how many Old Coins are still here due to Plugs being on every boulevard thus far that I have visited, which reminds me to do this!
One quick thing about this Plug Issue I must mention here. Detectorist's of the Fargo-Moorhead Area, I call out to you to Please make your Plugs as Small as possible and to at least put more Effort into Properly Filling back in the Holes and putting back the Plugs Securely. I have been seeing way too many Plugs that are in the 8-10" Range, which is Overkill. Also, I have seen a bunch with a lot of dirt still left around the Plug and even a few Plugs that were never pushed back down into the ground like they should be.
This make it look really bad for us that do a good job so Please do your part in keeping it Neat when you hunt. If you don't, then I feel that sometime down the road, the City will Ban
All Detecting on City Property if this keeps becoming a constant issue reported to the Police or the City itself. So Please Preserve Our Hobby if you would like to continue doing it for years to come or this Hobby of ours is Surely DOOMED!!! Now back to what I was saying.
Friday turned out well for a short hunt I thought. I had only enough time to do 1 side of a block and half of another before it started to get dark out. I didn't make a whole lot of finds but I did get a few. I even chatted with a fella that lived in the area and I kinda got the feeling that he didn't like me detecting his boulevard but he asked if I was finding anything and I told him yes. I told him that I had found a Wheatie or 2 and Merc and a Silver Rosie so far. He told me that another guy was through there the night before so he was surprised that I was able to find anything. I asked where he lived and he told me right where I was standing. This really gave me a bad feeling and I got that chill like he wasn't too happy that I was there. I kinda felt better after he wished me luck after this and went inside but I still had that feeling like he was watching me to make sure that I didn't do any digging. I didn't get anything deep here, only Surface Coins until I got to the end where a larger tree was. I came around the back side and got a Deeper 28 Reading. I dug down and out popped a Merc. I hurried and put it in my pouch, looking to see if he was watching out a window but didn't see anything. I got up and got a Wheatie just a little further away from where the Merc was found. I was happy to get out of that boulevard and move onto somewhere else. I hate when someone doesn't want you on "their Property" when in fact it is City Property, but I can see where they are coming from since they do have to Mow the Grass once a week. Total Keepers were 3 Silver being 2 Merc's and 1 Rosie and 5 Wheats.
Saturday, before the Hunt was to start, I had about an hour to do some detecting in the Park itself so that's what I did. I only landed 1 Wheatie and a Pin and I was using the Pro Coil during this time. I also found 1 Rosie after the Hunt was over. All the finds were made using the Pro Coil except the Hunt itself when I used the Joey Coil.
Sunday, I decided to go back into Fargo and continue where I had left off the previous night. As soon as I started, I found Silver. At first I thought I was going to have a Huge Silver Day but it died off quick. I dug 3 Silver's before my 1st Wheatie, which I couldn't believe. I found a few more Wheats and 1 more Silver for the day and decided to call it quits after I finished up the remaining boulevards in the area. But Hold On! Here's something that I usually wouldn't do but I feel that I did have the right to express my feelings towards a Home Owner (at least I think he was the Owner) that I came across in the morning. I was detecting as usual and popping out Clad Surface Coins with my Steel Probe and all of a sudden I hear a guy talking to me. I pulled off my Headphones and said Hello to him. He then told me that he would like for me to go elsewhere and not detect where I was. I told him that I was only looking for Surface Coins and he told me that another guy had been through there and had left some Brown Spots in the Grass from digging and he didn't want anymore Brown Spots. Again, I told him that I wasn't digging for anything but Probing with my Steel Probe and that Coins that I was finding were Surface Coins and didn't leave any damage. And then he said it! I still would like you to just go somewhere else and do that than on "My Property". When he said this, and normally I would have said fine, no problem, but just the way he said it and the way he was acting got the FIRE BURNING in my eyes and steam pouring out my ears. Again! This is something that shouldn't have been done but this JERK really asked for it! I told him "hold on a minute, for one thing, this isn't "your Property", this is City Property and I am doing nothing wrong". Boy! Did this get him Pi$$ed! He yells out at me and says "would you like to pay the Specials on this?!". I stood there and almost was about to FIRE back and tell him "well you shouldn't have bought your F-In' House, now should have you!" but I didn't. I did something much worse and was waiting for the Police to show up. I shook my head and blurted out "What a F-In' Prick!" and walked to the next house over. Usually, I will tolerate Home Owners wishes as long as they are professional about it and do as they say but when he mentioned Brown Spots and I looked at the boulevard and thought, what grass is still there, why would it matter since the Curb and Gutter is torn out, Drive-way Removed, the Sidewalk gone, and the boulevard will be getting scraped off to match up with the New Curb and Gutter later on, well that was enough Bull! Well, the Cops never showed up and I detected the rest of the boulevards that I had to do. But that Home Owner was sitting on his Porch all the time making sure I didn't step foot on his precious boulevard again, which I kinda Chuckled about after the confrontation. I am not sure if he heard what I called him but there is only so much I can take when I am out doing nothing wrong and just trying to save a few Coins from being lost forever and enjoying a quiet Sunday. I hope this doesn't make too many here on the Forum look down on me but hey, I did what I did and that's that. Now you know why I ask others to Please do a better job while out detecting. Now onto what I found on the boulevards. I got 4 Silver, 2 Merc's and 2 Rosie's along with 9 Wheats, an Older Canadian Penny, a Showbiz Pizza Token, a Mat Bus Token, a Misc. Plastic Heart and a Key for a Toyota. Also a Ton of Clad!
I then went over to my brother's after this. He wanted me to try out a detector he had just picked up at a Pawn Shop. It was a Bounty Hunter and a Cheap one at that. It only had an On/Off Button, Accept/Reject Button, and a Depth Button. It had somewhat of a ID on it but not much. I told him that it would work good for a Clad Coin Hunting Machine. He wanted to know where the Targets landed under the Coil and I showed him in the Center. I dug a few Coins with it and then he wanted me to try out my XS since he said that the Trailer Court was suppose to be from the 40's. He said he found a couple Wheats and a Silver Dime laying on top of the ground so I decided to try it. He also pointed out that he had been finding pieces of Toy Cars and that there maybe some in the yard. Well, he was right! I got into a Sand Box that was a Hill in the yard and dug a Car, then another, and then another. By the time I got done, I had dug 28 Cars, 5 Plastic Farm Animals, and a Plastic Bow and Arrow. I also found another Showbiz Pizza Token and a Country Kitchen Token. 1 of the Cars was a Redline's Hot Wheels Mighty Maverick in great shape, which he kept since we both collect Hot Wheels Cars. Well, this is getting WAY TOO LONG so here is the Totals.
I got 8 Silver, 4 Merc's dated 1929-d,1943,1944,1944-d and 4 Rosie's dated 1948-d,1952,1960-d, and 1964-d. I got a total of 15 Wheats dated 17,27-d,30,30-d,36-d,38,39,39-s,40-s,42-d,(2)44-d,51-d,53-d, and 54-d. I also found 1 Older Canadian Penny dated 1957. The Tokens were 2 Showbiz Pizza Tokens, 1 Country Kitchen Token, and a Mat Bus Token from Fargo-Moorhead dated 1990. Misc Items were a Plastic Heart, a Toyota Key, and a Pin along with the Toys I dug. So that's the finds. Sorry for the Super Long Post! Good Luck and HH!
