Late post of a few 4th of July finds found in my area. Part:1.

James N.D.

New member
Well, I didn't journey out like I usually do this past weekend so I knew the finds were going to be hard to make. I decided to stay home since some cousins were suppose to come by. One of them was having her birthday and she wanted a BMX Bicycle (1 of about 15 I have from racing days), so I took a Schwinn I had and did a Metal Flake Red Paint Job to it and put it together for her. The cousins never made it out this way but when they do, she will be surprised at her late birthday gift. Anyways, this coming weekend I am hoping to venture out again and bring home more Silver, hopefully.

I met up with Rick(ND) in Lindenwood Park in Fargo for a few hours on Friday and Saturday. Rick didn't fair well with only a few Newer Coins. Reason he wanted to try it was that on Thursday Night, I found a few more Wheats, an Indian Head, and a 5 ORE dated 1875 from Norway. I have never found any Barber in this Park but have found a few Indian Heads before. We hunted for awhile and I found a couple Wheats along with a Silver Roosevelt Dime and also a Barber Dime that I found within about 20 Minutes of being at the Park, my first out of this Park. The Coins are in this Park but they are Deep for the most part with a few close to the surface do to flooding by the river every Spring. When it was time for Rick to leave Saturday, I told him I was going to go try a local School and see what was there. I pulled 4 Wheats, an Older Jefferson Nickel, an Older Canadian Penny, and a Sterling Silver Ring.

Sunday, I tried a few different locations and went to one thinking that I was sure to get a Silver Quarter at due to not many detecting it that often. I found a few Wheats, a Medallion, and finally found a Silver Quarter that I was after. A dateless Standing Liberty Quarter but I will take it. I also stopped at a Ball Diamond with a Park next to it. I found a few Wheats and another Older Jefferson Nickel. There was also another Park I stopped at and was hoping to get a Toy Car since I didn't have one yet for Find of the Month. I finally found one and it is an Older Matchbox. During this weekend, I dug tons of Clad which also adds up and threw that in with the rest of the Clad Coinage that will be cleaned at the end of the year.

So here is what I found during the 4th of July weekend. I only got 3 Silver but at least I got out and enjoyed detecting. The Silver included 1 Standing Liberty Quarter without a date, 1 Barber Dime dated 1901, and 1 Roosevelt Dime dated 1964. I found 2 Nickels which were both Jefferson Nickels dated 1938-d and 1954-d. I also found 1 Indian Head dated 1901 and 2 Older Canadian Pennies dated 1952 and 1953. For Wheat Pennies, I found 25 of them (about half of them came from Lindenwood Park) and they are dated 16-s,18-s,19(2)20,26,28-d,37-d,40-d,41,(2)44,46,46-d,(2)48-d,49-d,50,50-d,52-d,53-d,(2)56-d, and (2)58-d. The rest of the finds will be posted in Part:2. Good Luck and HH to you all. Here are the rest of the finds. I found a Medallion Type Coin that reads Service Above Self on the front. The back reads the description of the front side. I also found an 1875 5 ORE from Norway at Lindenwood Park. This thing was a good 12" Deep and when I seen it, I thought I had a Token. I love them Old Surprises! I also found a Sterling Silver Ring at a School after leaving Lindenwood Park. For Misc., I found a Bobcat Key Ring with Bobcat Key on it, a Lead Bullet, a Junk Button, a Skull Pendant, a Clock Pendant, a Lincoln Continental Matchbox Series Toy Car, 2 Junk No Cash Value Tokens, a Cub Scout item, a Tag with P. Knoff on it, a Tube of Old Lipstick (and no, it isn't any good anymore for you Cross Dresser's out there), and a Dog Tag with the Name of Charlie on it. That's the rest of the finds for now. Good Luck and HH to you all and thanks again for looking.[attachment 97653 DirtyForeignCoinandMedallion.jpg][attachment 97652 CleanedForeignCoinandMedallion.jpg][attachment 97656 CleanedForeignCoinandMedallionBack.jpg][attachment 97659 CleanedSilverRing.jpg][attachment 97663 DirtyMisc..jpg][attachment 97661 CleanedMisc..jpg]

James, Looks like that new coil is pulling out the silver and copper for you. :clapping: I also really like those tokens in part- 2. My two Minlab coils are on back order. :ranting: So keep posting so I have something to look forward to why I wait, awesome finds Buddy. Looking forward to part- 3 HH....Phil :minelab:

James, reading your story was a pleasure. The presentation and contents surely reflects a guy who takes pride in all that he does.

I'll bet that the same diligence evident in this post, is applied to all that you do. Hope your cousin appreciates and enjoys that Red BMX !

Looking forward to your next report, so keep that Minelab 'swinging and singing'

Best regardes..........MattR.UK.

Glad you liked the post and hope to have many more to come. I'm happy to help out when I can no matter if it has something to do with detecting or something else. Good Luck and HH.

With the price of Gas, I'll try my best to keep pulling in the Silver and other finds so you have something good to look forward in reading and looking at. It's tough to make some nice finds in my area but there is always stuff still waiting to be found. Hope you get your Coils soon and give them a good workout and have some great results. Good Luck and HH.

I also like that Foreign Coin. It's not every day you find something like that and it is interesting when you find something from a different Country and when it is this Old. Gets you wondering on just what else maybe lost out in the Park? That was the first year of that specific Coin also that I found out when I searched Ebay. Thanks for the reply and Good Luck and HH Mattockman.:detecting:

Really nice James.:detecting:

Looks like a great weekend hunt !

Phil and I get stuck hunting the same places every weekend. With his work schedule differing from mine...and the price of gas..we just keep on poundin' the same sites over and over. About every 2 months we get to make a trip to St. Louis...but he has to take off work...and I have to get clearance from my girlfriend...so it doesn't align up too often.

It's tough to keep working the same ole sight but at least if you are still pulling Keepers, that it is still worth the time and effort. Keep up them great finds Bryce and Phil! Gives me something to drool about if I'm not making the finds. Good Luck and HH.:super:

but when it gets hot and the humidity starts to climb, it's tough to keep on pounding the ground and to relax in making some finds with the heat pounding down on a person. Thanks for the reply SNOWY and Good Luck and HH to you.

Go to a site and think you maybe able to pull a few Keepers and soon find out that the finds are not what you thought they would be. Just gives the person another reason to keep finding sites to go to and hopefully one will be Loaded with some Nice Keepers. Thanks for the post GR and Good Luck and HH to you on your next hunt.

Nice variety of finds, James. We can just about count on you to post some good finds after every weekend.
There's always at least a few silver coins (sometimes a lot) along with a good mix of other old keeper coins.
I try to use those posts to keep up some hope & motivation & to realize that there is still enough good stuff
out there waiting to be found to make it worthwhile to hunt for the time being.

Take care & HH,
Dan.

Thanks for the post James. As Dan said, you are a good motivation when my finds aren't quite so good. How far are do you typically roam for your hunts? Ever make it down to South Dakota? I will be up on the Iowa/South Dakota border in a couple weeks which is probably still quite a drive from your location but am hoping it will produce some nice finds. There are some older parks which i had hit years ago with my old Garrett but am hoping the Mine Lab delivers. Also, what are you using to clean up those tokens and trinkets? They all cleaned up pretty well. I've found several non-coin souvenirs over the years but haven't tried to clean except for soap/water.

HH,
Kelly

You have to get out there and find it before the other guy does and that is what keeps me going. And of course, everyone on the forum is waiting to see what I find next, so I can't let you guys down. I'm like the Energizer Bunny! I keep going, and going, and going! I AM A ROBOT!:rofl: Thanks for the reply and Good Luck and HH to you if you get out this weekend.
