Lava looking metal?

mcb613

Member
Anyone ever find a clump of what looks like a clump of molten lava. Gun metal color and very hard... cannot mark it with a whack from shovel. It is not porpous like lava though. Defenitely not rusted. Any thoughts?

I have run into that myself. Someone told me it is slag what ever that is.

Picture?

I found a piece of irridescent bornite last summer that sound similar to your description. You can find pics on ebay of samples.

In Western Australian goldfields we find a lot of this type of material in soils rich in iron and it is caused by lightning strikes melting the iron in the soil and forming slag type material.
