LCD vs LED?

I was looking into getting either the VX3 or the V3i and noticed on the side-by-sides on a site that the VX3 has an 'LED screen' and the V3i has a LCD' screen.
anyone know the difference besides letters of the alphabet?...LOL.
clarity? sunlight/glare? brightness? ... that type of thing... thanks in advance!

That was a typo, both machines use the same display, in fact they are the same detector with a different user interface. If I'm not mistaken the typo is on the Kellyco site right?

This the wrong information on Kellyco. The only physical difference is the coil making it 2 oz lighter.

FYI Led is like the mini lights you see in new flashlights now,tail brake lights etc tiny lights that last a lot longer than regulae old fashion bulbs. Another example the turn signal in newer vehicle mirrors those are LED lights. I had a LED Detector the Treasure Baron Cointrax II a Red LED would light up for the target ID.It had a function where you could have the row of LEDs flash constantly like the Knight Ryder car LOL.LED is the new think in brake lamps,signal lights etc.Tractor Trailer,trailer brake lights was the first that I can think of using em. PS LCD was first used on your fish finders. Now your new TVs are LCD screened,your labtops,phone screens,etc you get the idea and of course our almighty metal detectors.

Woodchuck - yeah, those are all LED uses but that is still the older LED technology basically. The new LED technology is used in monitors and saves a ton of energy. They call it LED backlit I think. So, theoretically and quite easily, the V3i could use an LED monitor - nothing changes they just use less energy and are very very bright. Their cost is now pretty close to other monitors. My 24" home monitor is LED (and a bit too bright). It was roughly the same price as non LED but it saves over 40% energy. I hear they can save much more than that as well. The Ipad is also LED backlit. It is becoming standard in monitors these days.

Sure, it wasn't fixed when I mentioned it.... I expect to see LED screens in metal detectors in the near future. Like I said before, Light Emitting Diodes are suppposed to have a super long life, and as earthmansurfer pointed out, much more efficient. Either way, now we know....

thanks for the responses, and yes it was KellyCo. I love their side-by-side compare part of their site. I have never used them yet. I bought off 2 other places/big dealers so far tho.

I knew it just sounded wierd, that's why I figured I'd ask.

To be honest, I called KellyCo once and got a gal on the phone and had a few questions. She didn't sound like she knew what she was talking about and sounded like she was trying to look something up and maybe improvising. It was just a general question about ground balancing, I was just trying to be sure about (only metal detecting for 3 months), and it kinda scared me so I went elsewhere. A lot of people love KellyCo, and I am sure they haven't been around that long on luck,...lol... so maybe she was new or something (?). She was nice tho, but lot of money to spend and I wanted to get a knowledgable answer.

Really thinking about ordering a V3i this week (fat paycheck$), and might call KellyCo again....
