Is this Quick enough, Lisa?
I have a 705, you might ask Goes4ever he runs a 70 or a 50 (705 or 505?) for input also.
The Xterra is a good tool. It is only my 2nd machine. I use tools any time I am at work because of my trade (machinist), and as a DIY kinda guy very often when I am not. I like to think that I can tell if I have a quality tool in my hand, and I find my 705 to be a quality machine.
I have not ran the Troys yet, but it is my understanding that the Troy has a quicker recovery time, but the Xterras are not slow. I also belive you will find that it is quite capable, though you may want to trade up from the stock coil, maybe not though (everyone else seems to). The coils tailor the machine very well to different soils and hunting conditions, as well as different targets and how it responds to different targets. The different coils available make the machine VERY adaptable. The ID works well. I am sure the X70 is also more tunable and has independently rejectable notch segments. Auto Ground Balance, Auto Noise Cancle, multiple programs, a prospecting mode with adjustable iron rejection levels.
The Xterras are light at about 2.8 lbs (depending on the coil).
I suspect you might be disapointed the first few times out (I was) . After running it a few times and sorting out some of the settings, I would be very suprised if you were unhappy with it.
I know that I would not trade mine for a Troy. I am not saying that I wouldn't buy a Troy in the future, but it is not on my list for a 2nd or 3rd machine.
I have the 705 and 3 coils.
The stock which is a 9" CC at 7.5 khz (coins -n- relics)
5 x 10 DD at 18.75khz (prospecting, but I hunt coins with it)
6" DD at 18.75khz (works awsome in trash)
I will buy one more coil, a 10.5" DD at 7.5 khz. They all handle a bit differently and I do use all 3 of them. Ask if he is gonna kick in an extra coil
Good Luck
Jeff
