Looking for a litle extra assurance.....

I have an opportunity to trade my Troy Shadow X2, along with accessories (and only a few extra bucks), in for a Minelab Xterra 70, that is excellent condition. The trade would be with a very reputable dealer that many people from this forum seem to have a lot of confidence in. Sounds like a good deal to me, but just wanted to get a little back-up assurance. Yes? No? The 70 does have ID and depth, doesn't it? Need to make a fairly quick decision, so PLEASE speak up, ASAP!!

Thanks,
Lisa

Is this Quick enough, Lisa?

I have a 705, you might ask Goes4ever he runs a 70 or a 50 (705 or 505?) for input also.

The Xterra is a good tool. It is only my 2nd machine. I use tools any time I am at work because of my trade (machinist), and as a DIY kinda guy very often when I am not. I like to think that I can tell if I have a quality tool in my hand, and I find my 705 to be a quality machine.

I have not ran the Troys yet, but it is my understanding that the Troy has a quicker recovery time, but the Xterras are not slow. I also belive you will find that it is quite capable, though you may want to trade up from the stock coil, maybe not though (everyone else seems to). The coils tailor the machine very well to different soils and hunting conditions, as well as different targets and how it responds to different targets. The different coils available make the machine VERY adaptable. The ID works well. I am sure the X70 is also more tunable and has independently rejectable notch segments. Auto Ground Balance, Auto Noise Cancle, multiple programs, a prospecting mode with adjustable iron rejection levels.

The Xterras are light at about 2.8 lbs (depending on the coil).

I suspect you might be disapointed the first few times out (I was) . After running it a few times and sorting out some of the settings, I would be very suprised if you were unhappy with it.

I know that I would not trade mine for a Troy. I am not saying that I wouldn't buy a Troy in the future, but it is not on my list for a 2nd or 3rd machine.

I have the 705 and 3 coils.
The stock which is a 9" CC at 7.5 khz (coins -n- relics)
5 x 10 DD at 18.75khz (prospecting, but I hunt coins with it)
6" DD at 18.75khz (works awsome in trash)

I will buy one more coil, a 10.5" DD at 7.5 khz. They all handle a bit differently and I do use all 3 of them. Ask if he is gonna kick in an extra coil

Good Luck
Jeff

I would not trade my x-terra for anything . I really like my 70 just found a 1946 silver dime friday with it . And x-terras have a big coil selection, i think you will really like it also , it also has multiple tones which is a big plus. Get it and don't look back.

It sounds pretty good. What all accessories are you selling and I will get you a close value on yours. The X-70 is a good machine. It will take a little getting used to as it is not a beep and dig. You will need to learn what it is telling you.

The best part about it is you have a great deal of versatility with it. You can upgrade to several different coils of different frequencies and types as your skills improve with it. You can adjust your settings to accommodate a lot of variable conditions on the fly. The coils used on the '05 series are the same ones used on the 70. I would personally say it is a GOOD deal. Go for it if it "feels" right.

Well, it's a done deal. Just got to package up the old Shadow X2 and send it on its way. Looking forward to getting the x70!!! I'm sure I'll have a million questions for you guys when I finally get it in my hands - hope yall wont mind. I'm sure I'll need lots of help to learn it - and learn it right.

Thanks!
Lisa

Congrats on the trade!

I've been using an Explorer for a while now and wouldn't want to part with it... You're going to love the 70, just give it some time.

Please do, Mark! I would really appreciate that. You have my email address..

Thank you!
Lisa

We will be glad to answer any questions . I think there is four or five of us on here that have one. Congratulations on your new detector.

Here's the actual instructional video for the 70
x-terra video

I haven't looked at any of the videos, but there are some here that are of people hunting with the 70. I'm sure there's more if you search the site a little. Kinda cool to hear what they're hearing when they hunt. Join the forum and post questions. The people that are in the minelab instruction videos will answer your questions :)

Thanks Travis! I'm looking forward to getting it! I'm sure I will be asking you, Mark, Tell, Marty, and a few others, all kinds of questions!

you will be SO HAPPY, the x-70 is an awesome machine, lightweight easy to use!!! congrats on a supberb trade!!!!! if you need any help at all, just let me know, I'd be glad to help you.

Hi Lisa,
Don't forget to check the club website referred to in a previous communication between the two of us. There are many 'Training Videos' there to help you. Here's the Minelab website address: http://www.minelab.com/usa/consumer . The only coil I use, other than the stock coil, is the 5" x 10" 18.75kHz Double D, which I have found to be excellent on 'Silver' and 'Small Gold'. There's a 10" Double D you may like as well. You'll want a good set of headphones and I personally recommend the Koss UR-30 Headphones or the DetectorPro Grey Ghost Headphones. They're both excellent.

If you decide to use rechargeable batters, purchase the AA NiMH cells (1600m/a). Battery life is great with both rechargeable's or non-rechargeable's alike. You're going to love your X-Terra 70 but then those of us who use is wouldn't trade it for anything else. Hands down it's the best detector I've ever owned - bar none.

Thanks Terry! I'm sure I will need your help!

Lisa

Thanks Marty! I was planning to ask the headphone question. Will consider the coils a little later on when I get kind of used to the machine. I appreciate all your help - and everyone's help.

Lisa

OK, Terry! I'll check on that.
