Lori found her first silver.Lets hear the story of your first silver...Anyone?:wave:

It was a 1942 Merc. at 3 to 4 inches March 16, 1999 at a local school with a White's Spectrum XLT. The snow had just melted. Still have the dime not the detector.
 
I finally decided to try metal detecting and picked up a brand new Garrett GTI 2500 and dug like mad for six months - nothing but clad, lots of it and a buffalo nick, no silver coins at all. Someone convinced me I should get an Explorer XS instead and it took a little while to get used to. Hunted a VERY small green in my sister's town one evening and started digging deep wheaties. Then I got my first silver coin - man it was (as the Rain Man said) "very sparkly, like a holiday!" :crazy: It was either a 41, 42, or 43 Merc...I was very happy! I dug a few more wheats and then ANOTHER Merc dime of the same timeframe. I went back there the next day and I dug another handfull of wheaties and another Merc or two - I can't remember, but now I felt like a PRO :biggrin: and I had some confidence that I could finally dig good stuff. My next stop was the town center of the town I grew up in - my first signal there - a BARBER dime.....it was so amazing, such a beautiful coin - I didn't even know what it was called (still my favorite coin type as far as looks - this guy knew how to design classy looking coins - not the junk we have now......who the heck wants to look at dead Presidents anyway!) - I think I dug like 4 or 5 silvers that weekend after six months of nothing. I went on to dig about 60 - 70 more silvers out of that little park that summer, including Barber dimes, 2 SQL, IH cents, some cool relics, and my first LC! Man was I hooked!
 
Mine was a 1938 Mercury dime. Nothing exciting but I assure you I will never forget it.
 
My first silver coin was found in the summer of 1968 just after I started digging. It was a 1953-D Ben Franklin Half Dollar that I dug up at the elementary school that I went to. I was using a Metrotec 220-A Metal Detector that my Father had just bought for me. I was a very excited 15 year old. I will never forget that feeling. HH...Jesse.

This is a sweet post...and I love reading about everyone's first silver find.

Once you pop out the first one...you're hooked for the rest of your life. It's always in your blood:beers:

Mine was a 1910 barber dime, badly worn. Found in the woods of North Ga. while relic hunting in 1979 with a Fisher 441.

The second time out with my w--'-s detector 2 years ago I dug my first silver wafer, a '45 merc....at my old elementary school built about 1960. I was hooked! amc

I must admit though...it took MUCH talent to hold that machine above your head as your butt bounced off of each and every concrete slab...on your way into the pond:starwars: :bouncy:
 
My first silver find, believe it or not, was an 1897 Barber half dollar. It was at a farmstead, (my brother in law actually), which had been the site of a small country school in the late 1800's early 1900's. Unfortunately the land had also been farmed and the half was badly corroded, probably from fertilizers and herbicides. Also unfortunately, my brother-in-law wanted to keep it. So, I bought myself a replica of it for my collection. The replica is in much nicer shape than the actual find. Congratulations to you, Lori.
 
Two barbers and a merc in the same hole , 40ish years ago , non-discriminating BFO , a few feet from an apple tree stump hole , in the yard where I grew-up.
 
My first silver was a gents ring with a black onyx stone from a bunce of black sand.
Quite a surprise and I have not looked back. It hooked me good.
