Lost my program that was keeping my coin counts

I can't tell you how many quarters, dimes, nickels or pennies I picked up but I do remember the total number of coins and the total amount of these coins. I guess I will just know my totals from now on. With this hunt (Hunt #177) I now have 6,577 coins for a total amount of $417.18 for this season. Thanks for looking and Happy Trails....Z

Bummer! Oh well, if thats all you lost this year, you are doing better than most! Losing vision, hearing, memory, and vision is tough!
Zeeky old pal, you may just get in a few more hunts in the next couple of days...its really warm this am. Good job! It was sure fun watching your finds grow this year, I learned a lot from you!

Zeekey .............. Can you say 1, 2, 3 ............. Jeezzzzz Man. Sorry about the program .. can you take it to staples for recovery Sir......... I have been told nothing is truly gone.. It's buried somewhere............. Staples offers a service for cleaning etc..maybe they can recover..or some other computer place can do it..

Thanks Mud. I have really been keeping track of the coins because it just started out to be a good year and it just kept going. It is my top year for amount of coins.
I think next season I will only count the number of coins and be done with all this stuff.
El I had a company that works on computers get it up and running for me. It was locked up and wouldn't boot up. They did a good job. The only data I lost was coin program. I still have 2 programs that aren't working right yet, but I will work on those in the next few days. Too much at a time causes overwhelm for me. El I have been taking pictures of my finds with my digital camera and I have pretty many of my hunts on the computer so I will go back and count again when it is snowing and cold. I might be a few hundred off but should be pretty close on all counts.
Mud it was supposed to be 57 here today but it is cold and damp. Only could stay out 2 hours, feet and hands too cold. Thanks for looking and Happy Thanksgiving to all......Z

Bad deal!
Years ago they're was a saying in the computer world!

Type Fast, Save Often! (several backups of your files)

Yes!!! Mark
It seems to me I said that myself a few times  and have a spindle of cd's that I have backed up programs along with flash drives. I have been thinking of a external hard drive for a few years. I keep putting it off because I would rather get a new computer. This one is 6 years old or more. Lot of nice stuff out there that will work for what I do on the computer for about $500.
I would rather get 2 coils for my detector than a new computer. Gad it is tough when you live on a retirement income. Priorities come first and computers and detecting gear come just about dead last. Not complaining. Love retirement. One of the companies I worked for called and asked if I would be interested in doing some driving? I said been there and done that. I told him I would rather go detecting. Thanks for reading and Happy Trails.....Z

If you haven't heard of it, you might want to look into the web site, wwwcarbonite.com . It costs about $60 / yr and it automatically backs up your data in the background and it really works if you have a crash....and we all DO! I've had it for a couple years now and I think it's worth the money. Just a thought.

Regards,

Keith

I followed a good number of your post and (hint) your "Pictures" and your "Coin Counts" I would say that if you do a forum search for all your post you could get your coins and coin count from your past post, just a thought?

Zeek, Google the net for....file recovery software.some are free...most you pay a few bucks ($20-40). Download some of them. Run them. See if missing program is found. Most good recovery software will find the missing program, if its possible, but you will have to buy the program in order to do the actual file recovery. Good luck.

Coin count= 6,682 worth $421.30 with hunt# 181. Keith I am using the old fashioned way. I log coins on my DAV calender on the day I find them with the hunt number.
Mark that is what I am planning to do when winter snow hits. Just going to go into the picture file and count coins from the picture.
Terra: There isn't much that I would want to retrieve from my computer that is worth anything. It is like telling me to go back and remember all those other useless memories. It is time consuming but kind of worthless in scheme of things.
Getting back to detecting I found a new park. The park is a very small one surrounded by some very old houses. I found it last night when going home after hunt #181 in the dark. I stopped and it looks good. Hope to hit it today. Thanks guys for your concern and replies. Happy Trails....Z
