Took me a year or more to get a good handle on my Explorer. I was ready to wrap it around a tree more than once. Keep with it and you won't use much else! Good Luck!

Hey Weston ! I'm going into my third year with my SE. First year with the stock Slimline coil and since with the Pro coil. The first year was a real learning experience but I did well with it. Bryce's advise and Andy's book really speeded up the process. There is always room for improvement but at some point you'll
experience "zen" with the machine where you more "feel" the machine rather than pushing it. Sounds crazy but I think everyone knows what I mean.
Keep swinging and experimenting.

The explorer is not for everyone. My friends who use different brands say they could never get used to the "tones". I jumped on the explorer wagon after swinging a "brand X" for 2 years. Within an hour of use I was digging oldies.

We need to get together some time Weston. I have had my SE about 10 months and like someone said you will learn every time you go out. Listen to them on this forum, since this is an Explorer Forum. Read, read, and then read some more. Andy's book is a must. If you don't have it you can use mine. Bryce will answer any questions ect you will have, as many consider him an SE Guru.
Good luck Buddy

I had the Excalibur for a year or so before I got the Explorer, so that may have some effect on my learning the Explorer. To me the learning curve was just a matter of recognizing the high to low tone scale and the corresponding display location. Sure I kept learning, but I was finding deep coins on the first day out. It just never seemed hard to me at all. I guess I am lucky.

Hang in there weston one of these times it will click for you. One thing that may help you is to get an 8" coil. You will still get great depth plus it will be easier to tell what is going on under the coil, since there will be less under the coil at one time. I use the Sun Ray X8 (for 10 years) and love it. You will be surprised at how different the smaller coil makes the machine. Of course this is when you are hunting in moderate to high trash - in clean ground you won't see much of a difference.

Hope this helps and HH - BF

I think i will try to locate one of the 8"sunrays but i couldnt spend as much right now. a guy has one but he wants 125 dollars for it so i got a explorer 11 coil for half the price for right now.
