LTD snags me my first silvers for 2011.

As some of you know, I haven't been swinging the LTD as much since getting an Omega 8000 last summer. Since back in Dec. I've been trading off between the two, more or less, to get re-acquainted with the LTD. I also have some spots that I feel a little more depth is needed and when such occasions come along, I use the F 75 LTD.

Anyway, was hunting a stretch of ground that the Boy Scouts have gathered on for many years and was also part of a Military base going back to the World War two era. I was swinging along in sen. 85, disc. 0, de mode and 3h tones using the 11" DD and got a good high tone, mid tone mix and a bouncy vid. The numbers, however, were a pretty consistent 29-31 and 69-72, so I decided to dig it. In the clod was a nickel and 2 silver Rosie dimes, a 51D and a 57. The 2 dimes were on one side of the clod and the nickel on the other. The nickel and 2 dimes were separated by about 3" or so. It is digs like that that continue to amaze me about some of the Tek and Fisher detectors. You all know what silver Rosies look like, so I'll not post a picture at this time. HH jim tn

Jim....last month (before the snow came) I was in the woods and hit a solid 93 on my LTD. It was a four way solid 93 and I was sure I had a silver half coming out of the ground, the meter said 5" so I sank the shovel about 6" and flipped the plug. In the bottom of the hole I could see silver alright....a 1938 Merc...????? As I was pondering the reasons why I got a 93 on a target that will almost always give a solid 78 I swept the coil over the hole again and got a solid 88 in the plug...???? I poked the plug with my pro pointer and it went off solid on the bottom of the plug....yep.....there she was a nice 1936 Washington quarter!
I learned a couple things that day: Number 1 the LTD is not good at math and Number 2 when she hits four way solid in the high VDI range "something" good is coming out of the hole!!

Cheryl, thank you. Not very deep, 4-5."

Dave, I kind of like those funky readings. I thought possibly there could be a couple of coins under the coil and I remember thinking, nickel and a cent, maybe even a wheatie. I was surprised when I saw the silver dimes and silver dimes usually read 73-74 at that depth in the de mode for me. Plus there were two, which usually boosts the number another point to two. I suspect the LTD was trying to do some averaging. A silver dime and quarter is a nice twosome, congrats on those. HH jim tn

Unless you got the pics! Ha ha only kidding. Have u used a regular f-75 before? If so, is the ltd quieter for u?

Yes, lots of hours on a regular F 75. Do you mean emi quieter, or turf chatter quieter? As far as day in ,day out turf hunting, I find them both about the same, normal signals from what is under the coil. Now, in emi plagued spots, the bp mode is less affected then the de mode and is easier to quiet down. HH jim tn

Nice takes, Jim!! Great start on 2011~!

dave!,,could also mean that the total "size" of the two coins together is what indicated the higher vid
number!..possibly,the two coins were close to each other in the same spot in the ground which would present a "larger"
"mass" to the coil as detected, allowing the vid to respond with a "larger" v.i.d....also it is 'possible" as a result of the two coins
situated in the ground a certain way, the "high conductivity" of the two coins being "silver" may have 'blown" up the v.i.d....just sayin!
congrats on the nice result!
