Make that Eleven (11) Safaris

I finally laid out the $75 appraisal fee for the platinum & diamond ring I found one year ago today. I Think I just paid for a new Safari... or 2 or ...?

The appraisal arrived in the mail yesterday, and at the appraised replacement value of $11,100, that would pay for 11 New Safaris.

My wife has only worn the ring a couple of times in the past year and said that it really isn't her style of ring, so I am thinking about selling it, and was wondering if any of you have some tips on where or how to sell to get the best price. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Bart

WOW!!!! That is a truly amazing ring and that is what most of us dream about detecting!!!! Maybe the appraiser might know of a reputable buyer or you can post it on Ebay, although the commission will be about 9% of the selling price. I hope you get close to that appraisal amount they gave you.

Yes, for a fair price where does a person sell an expensive ring to generate some cash.!? I am both a domestic coin-ring searcher since 1973 and also a prospector. In 1990 found 11.98 oz of gold in a hardrock vein that I hand chisled out and I only got $5080 for it back then from a refiner. Still to this day I have not presued it as I do not know blasting. But getting top dollar for jewelry gold is a good question.

Nice find with the ring.We all hope to find a treasure like that.Where was it found? What did it come up as on the Safari. What number? How deep?I showed my wife. Now she wants one.....Great job.

psyvad,

I can only dream of finding a beautiful diamond ring that you found. Congratulations! You might try a respected local
or national Auction dealer. First, get some guidance from a Jewelry store on what direction to take to
sell your ring.

A jewler might take it to sell on consignment with a minimum you discuss and a fee you agree to pay. Make sure you are there for the sale so you don't get swindled on the sale deal.

BOOM!:yo:

Thanks for all of the comments and great suggestions!

After doing some more investigation, it looks like I would be pretty lucky to get even half of the appraised value. A jewelry consignment store would charge a 40% commission. Maybe I'll try on eBay, with eBay & PayPal fees will be about 13%, or maybe get it resized a bit smaller and let my wife keep it.

Time to get back out and find some more jewelry. (I've already sold gold and platinum finds which paid for my Safari and G2)
