Manticore battery life.

I'm not out as much as I like but when I have the time, I like to make a day of it.

A recent hunt with my son and a friend lasted about 6 hrs. My battery was on it's last bar, where my partners were only one bar down (Legends).

I realize that the Manticore takes more power to run, but my D2 had a way better battery life than this.

That being said, how many of you use the rnb battery packs? Do they balance well on the detector? Are they waterproof?

Here's some found from my last hunt just for fun....

Yes, the MC battery leaves something to be desired, especially when running in ATHC. I have a backup battery available, but haven't used it yet...I generally run in All-Terrain General (as opposed to High Conductors), and the battery life is notably better (though still not what I wish it were).

My original Manticore battery 5 plus years old became weak (only 6hrs run time}, so I replaced it. Right back up to 8 plus hours of run time. The process was simple. I do have an external battery pack and they do work well. The machine won't charge while hooked up if you are hunting but it will function just fine. High sensitivity settings seem to kill battery run time as well.

Those are some great finds congrats. Love the heel plate.
To your question yes, & yes. I use the R&B, also run the 9in. coil. It does help balance out the machine and quite honestly I don't notice the added weight. I learned quickly the battery life is nowhere near adequate for a full day of hunting. Running with the screen on it didn't last six hours. So I bit the bullet and bought one. Another good point is, it cuts down on your recharge time significantly. Bart at Big Boys has them, good guy to deal with. Good luck
Too add, you can and I do run with it on through the hunt, and again this is where the recharge time comes in.

laplander, mine from the gitgo in ATLC background screen on wouldn't last 6 hours. Thing is, its hard to see the screen in daylight (almost as bad as the Etrac was ) and I wanted to see the trace and learn what it was trying to show. Duh, several hundred hours later I'm still learning. Ha ha. Good luck.

Wow, haven't seen a post from you in a while. Everything ok ? Do you make it back to Pittsburgh any more or have you been too busy. Looks like the business took off pretty well. I don't see your buddy John posting any videos either. Since I got the Manticore in Dec. 24 I have been hunting two of the old city parks. To date over 50 silver and a ton of keepers. I use ATLC w/ high recovery. The machine is amazing. Good luck and good hunting.

Thank you! Yeah, my buddy was in awe over the lc, but I was like man, look at that heel plate! 🤷 Second one ever for me.

I prefer the screen on as I like to check out the 2d screen and Vdi#s for reference once a target is suspected.

Balance makes a big difference. Many didn't care for the Whites detectors but I thought my V3i was balanced well enough to offset the weight.

Do you know if the RnB pack is waterproof?

I think it's the screen backlight that's the drain. I don't typically run above the mid 20s for sensitivity. Seems to be a sweet spot for me, not to chatty, plenty deep. I purchased new last fall so hopefully it doesn't need a battery already, but you never know. I probably have 40 hrs on it. It's good to know the battery replacement isn't bad.
