Mattockman, I owe you a beer! (Threshold Tone)

Some other things I've figured out* have helped but your suggestion on the Threshold Tone (TT) was just the ticket. Hit what I knew was a quarter today and took the opportunity to play with the TT to get that quarter/silver tone to a pitch that wasn't in one of my hearing loss zones. Ended up setting it at 9. That puts everything a bit higher than I'd like but the quarter/silver tone just sings to me now. I haven't read through the manual in quite a while but I don't recall it mentioning that the TT also adjusts target pitch and I've not seen it mentioned elsewhere either. That was extremely helpful. Ended up the day with another silver quarter, '53, that I managed to lose :rage: here in the house somewhere and 7 or 8 wheats. Thank you!

Now if only the headphone manufacturers would add parametric EQs to their lines. (Though I'm wondering if I can find or build one.) Or manufacturers of the top-end detectors would add an EQ to their set-ups. It's easy to do in software.

*One of the other things was that that blippy sound I've come to associate with hot rocks isn't always so (but still is too much of the time).

Hi Mattlock,

Do you have a link to that post so I can read it?

Thanks!

BlackX you mention adding parametric EQs to their lines.... How would that help?

I have said this in multiple places but I believe the one he is talking about is on page 3 here under major post from fllawboy Potential upgrade question check out all the posts while your there......

Yep...
I base my tone setting to give my best sound on silver as well...

I don't know how many of you folks have tried setting your response to "pitch hold," but I like it.

With a parametric EQ you can normally boost (or cut) any single frequency you want, and normally has a Q (bandwidth) adjustment where you can select the width of that frequency's effect. What I'd like to use it for would be to set the threshold tone where I like it--much lower than I have it at the moment--and be able to boost the signals I really want to hear, not just to compensate for my hearing loss in certain frequences, but also to make the silver/copper range jump out more. (With the Q adjustment, you could norrow the bandwidth to just boost, say, quarters, or widen it to include quarters and dimes, etc.)

Went out tonight for a while and, with it set on 9, the copper pennies, dimes, and quarters "sing" a lot more and stand out to some degree so that's helping a lot. Think I'm going to have to figure out more about hot rocks now though.
