I tried to get this post up 3 days ago but I have been busy with my Pops and his surgery. Still am very busy helping him out with things...but I wanted to get this post up.
Thank you to all of you who kept checking on my dad. He came through the surgery well and now must take it easy for at least 5 weeks before beginning the dialysis process..
Rain was predicted for the next few days....and dad was going in for his surgery in just a couple of days...so I figured I might as well road trip while I had the chance.
He was spending the day with 2 friends and he really wanted me to go enjoy myself...so off I went.
A very good friend of mine... "G-Money" as I call him..has been kind enough to drive 2 1/2 hours to hunt with me on more than one occasion ..so I figured I'd head his way this time. He's a true friend...and I value that.

First off I don't want to confuse anyone with who "G-Money" is...because I also call Guvner "G".
Key point here...notice I said I called Guvner "G"...as in plain old G...NOT "G-Money".
"G-Money" is a whole different feller'..and there's a reason he's got the "money" nickname attached to his letter...while Guvner doesn't.

Anyway...when we arrived at the hunt site we noticed that it was only mowed in a few sections..and that those sections had lready been thoroughly pounded by quite a few other hunters.
We also noticed that what I thought was going to be a hunt with a friend... turned out to be a hunt with that friend...and at least 10 others.

I didn't find much but I can't complain. I think I've been fortunate enough to find a seated coin on 5 or more occasions this year already....and actually went 3 hunts in a row with a seated of some type...which is a personal best.
G-Money told me this was the toughest site he had ever hunted pertaining to iron. Well...this excited me...because as I always say...it's just the type of site I LOVE to hunt because I feel I'm at my best in iron infested sites.
Well...I officially RESCIND that statement when it pertains to this site.
I dug enough iron to start a freakin' blacksmith's shop
.... with BOTH the SE and the E-Trac.
I'm normally at my best in the iron... but here it ALL sounded good no matter what machine I used...and no matter how many times I circled the target....wiggled the coil...piddled...listened...etc.
The sound was good
...repeated
...visual ID good
...then out popped big rusty nails
...again...and again.
I found at least 5 big nails that I disposed of other than what is pictured.
Yes I also found some good coins hiding in the iron...but I have never hunted a site where rusty iron nails punked me like this...seriously. I was baffled.
I got a smoothie barber quarter next to junk at 9"
...an injun' next to iron.
..a smoothie barber dime next to iron
...some wheaties next to iron
...and then just a whole lotta' iron by itself.

I think it had to do with the mineralization of the ground...because it was something I've never experienced...and hope I don't again.
It was a great time though...and a great learning experience for me. (I learned I hate hunting this site):

Some good finds made by everyone and G-Money popped out a seated dime to go with his wheaties.

About 6:30 we all shook hands...parted ways...and I started the long trek towards home.
On the way home I realized I still had an hour of daylight left...so I decided to hit the park Guvner and I hunted a few weeks ago. I was going to be going right by it anyway...and since I pulled a half dime out last time...I figured I'd try for another.
Well to make a long story short...I got punked and skunked.
I didn't even find a memorial cent... which is pretty pathetic.
Hey...it happens.
Good luck on your next hunt fellers'.
