anyone know ?with the mxt?my wife has found several over the years with a rare earth mag . but all read as iron on older detectors of mine any one find one on mxt

There are two main types of meteorites, stony and iron with a small percentage being a combination of both. Unfortunately, the vast majority are stony and a metal detector will be of no help with those. About 6% of the meteorites are iron or iron/nickel and will read in the iron range. The VDI's will vary with size/composition and since your wife has already found some, you can scan those with the MXT and that will give you a good guideline to go by. Good luck.
