We all know him...he is a guru with several detectors and very supportive and helpful.
Are you referring to the F5 bible?
Don't know what the corrections post you are referring to is.

Yes, his knowledge of the F5 is amazing. I read every tip in his f5 'Bible'. The one I use, and use it all the time, is the one where you turn the 'Gain' and 'Thresh' ALL the way up. It is amazing how it works! You should try that one! Heck, everyone should try that one!!!

Can you repost that tip here ? I have the F5's tips and tricks file but can't find that specific one. Thanks.

Not sure exactly how this works on the F5, but I can show what it did for me using my F70 in this pic in an extremely heavy iron infested site that nobody had any luck hunting including me for years.
I was in all metal and it took time to learn what I was seeing and hearing and also learn to avoid iron and dig the good stuff...but I did.
I call these blast through settings because it seems to blast right through that iron and still get me a piece of a good signal on the non ferrous targets.
At first I dug mostly iron, as time went on I dug less and less and then all this showed up.

I also use these maxed out settings in general hunting.
Crazy as it sounds I actually have less problems dealing with EMI using this then at mid to high settings.

New here. Every link i click on for the f5 Bible is disabled. Is there still a place I can find it? Just got my dads old f5 and it’s still in the box but I need some help getting started It didn’t have the manual. I assume he opened the box, took out the manual and never used the machine.

I am pretty sure it is included in the Detector Database section of the Detectors Prospectors Forum. You can print a copy off and also the Fisher F5 Owners Manual.

Audio is saturated but almost immune to EMI very stable. I still like mine easy on the eyes.

Push the little magnifying glass icon in the top right corner. This is for search. Type fisher f5 in the subject box and Mike Hillis in the author box. You will find a lot of posts about the F5 from Mike.

I used the f5 more than any other detector from late 2008 to mid 2011. It found me a lot of silver, performed well and was enjoyable to use, The f5 was the first design of a platform that birthed many more detectors. A wonderful feature was how swinging the coil would eliminate most emi noise the detector had when the coil was stationary. As others have said, Mike Hillis was absolutely the guru of the F5

I bought the F5 from Bill Ladd when he was still in with fisher . Military grade reostats. Nice machine. One of the first machines. Only two software upgrades which don't effect my type of hunting. One was feedback if in all metal when using external speaker. Never experienced that. The other I don't remember but if I do I will post. Separation is satisfactory and the display is the bomb. Nice when you get older. Have fun nice 6 to 8 inch machine. No menus all is in front of you.

The f 70 came after the f5 . Never bought one but had gain and threshold settings . The flagship f 75 doesn't.

I think the second & last change to the F5 was to address Iron wrapping around to the top of the scale & high toning.
