where can i find maps of military roads in the west cirica 1810 to 1890?

Not sure there is a comprehensive book or source but again why not. When I travel, and have the time, I will visit Historical Society offices or University libraries. Great source of info for things like this especially if local to those organizations.

David Rumsey map collection is one place to look. The Library of Congress can be useful with the right search criteria. Also do a search of early maps of the state or territory in which you are looking. I don't know if other states have "quadrangle" maps like Colorado, but they show old trails over the top of present roads. There are also maps from engagements during the Civil War online.
