Minelab 8" coil performance

SWMO Mark

New member
I see that a lot of people are useing the SEF coils on their Etracs. Has anyone used the 8" coil built by Minelab on their Etracs. Curious on how it compares to the 6x8 Sef coil. Thanks, Mark

Just compared it last week, I have my 7.5 minelab for years and like it. My partner got a 6X8 so I did some comparison for a day at my 15 years old coin garden and there is very little if any in depth. as for tone on coins the 6X8 gives a sweeter and wider sound but also gives old iron (deep bent old nails) a iffy sweet sound that stops you in your tracks as for the 7.5 there is no doubt on coins and no doubt on iffy's. So I would go with the cheaper one.

Yes they are both DD. The only concetric coil made is by Excelerator that I know of, and I have two of those, they come in 8" only. I believe they were going to make a 11" but I haven't seen one.

I assume you are referring to the Minelab FBS 800 coil that comes complete with the carbon fiber shaft as an accessory from Minelab? If so then I have this unit and it works great in the trashy stuff and doesn't loose much depth over the stock 11''.I will say that it does feel a bit heavy compared to other aftermarket coils however and tends to make my E-trac a bit on the nose heavy side. All in all a great accessory.
