Minelab E-TRAC

Look at Richard's post in the classifieds. He's going to have them Friday. ML did not treat it's customers fairly when they still sold the SE Pro, in the last couple of months, without letting people know what was down the road. At least the customer should have had a choice on whether to go with the new or stick with the proven performer. Now they'll be out the price of an SE Pro and an E-TREC if they are wanting the latest. Don't try to tell me ML didn't know this was around the bend. Real smelly from a premium detector manufacturer. Wonder if they'll do an upgrade to the SE, like Fisher did with the F-75?

I agree with you here. I understand their reluctance in a way from a business standpoint but imagine if say no one knew about this and I bought the SE tomorrow and then 3-4 days later I find out I could've bought this newer model for $200 more. Man, I would be ticked off! They should have given people the choice. Save $200 or spend more and get the newer model. I mean that choice will be out there for others in a 3-4 days. Why wasn't this done earlier. It was not coincidence that they came out with a new coil. Imagine also people seeing this new coil and then not being given the opportunity to get one for the SE. They at least had to do that. They knew exactly what they were doing.

I'm not part of MineLab but the phrase,"When HELL freezes over" comes to mind. They would have to basically give you new housing with new software, circuitry, etc and that basically is the major cost of the MD. Now if they said for 300-400 dollars we can do this for the old ones that they would get a LOT of business in my opinion.

It says that the E-Trac was built from the ground up with alot of new features and tricks using technology learnt from the business and doesn't really replace anything else in Minelabs arsenal. It is now supposedly the new flagship product for Minelab, though. Move over, Explorer, there is a new sheriff in town...:please:

Therefore I am pretty sure there is no upgrade path from an Explorer or any other models. Kinda like going into an auto dealer after you bought a VW Polo and wanting to upgrade it to a VW Golf. Can't be done without buying a whole new model.

btw, I noticed that the UK price is 1199 pounds which translates to roughly USD2200. This is MUCH higher that what is being bandied around here. I wouldn't think the Poms would get screwed that badly compared to the Americans. I am still waiting to find out the price here in Oz but if it matches the UK price, I think that I'll be waiting awhile to purchase one.

but that's OK since I got a super deal on it and I just wanted to give it a trial with the new coil plus the new E-trac machine has to prove itself as better anyway...I 'm sure the new one is super pricey too such that many wives would rather have you use that money for something else...could increase the divorce rate worldwide...could just also be an Xterra 90 too :) but it apparently has most all Explorer features and then some in a long awaited lighter more ergonomic package...I guess you have to do it after all the Fisher F machines have arrived to compete in the ergonomics department at least -with I'm sure Minelab build quality and customer service-not made in Mexico I hope!..time will tell all...HH

Maybe not made in Mexico but my friend just went through 3 Excals and finally gave up and got a Beach hunter (2 of those were bad also). Don't get me wrong-I love Minelabs and have 2 EX2's and 2 Excals One excal was recently sent in for service. After 3 weeks I called and was told that they had cut back to 2 techs to do the repairs and that I was 186 in line. 2 Techs for all of US, Canada and South America!
I think what we are starting to see is all the manufacturers are just flooding the market with new and up graded units and not bothering too much with quality control I have 30 year old machines that still run perfectly and new ones that are constantly being sent in for repair. I think I am starting to see a trend.....02

They have 2 tech repairman for 3 continents! You got to be kidding me! You were 186th in line. I would find this situation to me totally unacceptable. If this was my only MD and it's been almost a month and then I'm told I am 186 in line. I would be seriously contemplating whether this company really cares about its customers or not and if I will be doing business with them in the future.

This concept reminds me of the growing trend in all commercial stores that I see if you need help or need to cash in your items that you want to buy. They cut back on the help because they save money and in turn you are inconvenienced by waiting much longer.

Hi Chris,

I just got a SE Pro also:cheers:

How does the ergonomics change from the Etrac to the Pro? From the pics I saw looks like the same basic design except the face plate has changed. Have they used less batteries? I havent seen the coil on it but its probably the same as the pro coil?

Thanks,
Neil

I am in the paintball business. PC interface was introduced on paintguns by a manufacturer back in 2001 so I guess it's about time it was brought into use on detectors. I don't see a big need for it other than being able to download upgrades from Minelab, or troubleshooting.

couldnt get either of those links to work. so the rod system has changed on it? or what makes it more ergonomic?

Thanks much,
Neil

Both links work . I checked them. U just put them in wrong. The url linking of this forum software wouldn't allow proper url linking if it was PDF url. Put it in as url addy, omit read for 1st link and omit This especially
for the second link listed

Thanks much,
Neil

Neil,

I think my SE Pro should be here today. From what I read the E-TRAC has the same battery requirements and packs as all Explorers with the same new 11" coil. I still not sure about the ergonomics change either. We'll see...take care,

Chris

I certainly see what you mean. After using Fisher CZ's and Explorer II's for awhile with such nice build quality and reliability without ever a problem, I'm concerned too about this apparent trend with the new machines.

I believe the grip angle is a little more tilted backwards.

And that is something I have had trouble with on my explorer.

They got it perfect on the terra and it looks to me as it is not quite the same angle as on the explorers.
