Minelab E Trac

I am going to purchase a used Minelab e trac and would appreciate some of you folks who are experience telling me what is reasonable to pay. Your counsel will be appreciated. Thank you.

Depends on the package ; without warranty time?
Repairs are astronomical with shipping to the point it's possible it would be counterproductive but fortunately the etracs are really very dependable.
600 - 700 for a plain unit with no warranty time is about where I would start

Depends on the condition and whether or not there is any warrantee......I have seen them go in the $750 to $1000 range - sometimes more if there are extra coils or a pinpointer.

I sold mine at three yrs old, listed it at $900 had two offers and sold it in under an hour for $875, they have a good resale

I personally wouldn't buy any used detector without trying it out first. Fleabay and like.... forget it.....IMO only.
As mentioned, non-warranty etrac repairs can approach the cost of a new ATPro. Be careful.

A friend of mine had an 18 month old etrac that started acting up. It would run for about 30 minutes then throw a voltage overload display and eventually just quit---non warranty repair of the "main board" would have cost him $900 plus shipping.
Feeling lucky?
On the plus side , there are a lot of older etracs out there still plugging right along with out issue. Far more than the number of CTXs and half the posts on the 3030 forum are discussions about the breakdown/failure rates with those things.

You want our counsel?----You've already gotten some pretty good ball park figures on purchase prices----but---for goodness sake, make sure there is a least "some" of the Minelab transferable warranty left on the detector if you are buying used--that's your insurance policy.------Other food for thought---the earlier Minelabs didn't carry the transferable warranty until a certain date---so you might want to check on that also---to see if you are purchasing a used machine that indeed does qualify for the Minelab transferable warranty.----------Del

Don't know this for sure but I've heard others talking about running the serial no. with Minelab to be sure of what your getting. Seller may tell you the warranty is transferable. Is the used unit a one owner or more? If I were you I would bite the bullet and buy new or if that's not possible wait till you've saved enough to buy new. You won't regret buying new or buying a Trac.

Thanks so much for your counsel. How remarkable that so many good people are willing to help. I have been told that it take about 6 months before you can accurately and regularly determine what the detector is picking up. Is that true?

Regarding transferable warranty, would I just ask if there is any left or is it something I would purchase? Thanks again.

I would say absolutely not. But ! And that's a BIG BUT! There are a lot a of variables. If you have never detected with any machine, the learning curve will be longer. The number of months is irrelevant it's how many hours you hunt in that six months. I'm going on four years detecting with various detectors that would be considered a lesser machine than the ETrac. I've hunted with my ETrac for 50+ hours and I'm still learning something every time I'm out. Don't think you ever really stop learning. There are variables in this part of the hobby too. Simply changing location with different ground and different targets and trash will warrant a different type of hunting, coil selection, program or pattern if your unit has these features. If your new to detecting the best thing you can do is find someone who is willing to mentor you and if they run an E Trac that's even better yet. If this can't happen..... this forum has some extremely gifted and accomplished members who share it all right here. HH..... Hunter.

Sure there is a learning curve for all machines but you will be digging deep coins your first day out with just the stock programs of the etrac,

If going used make sure it has warranty left, you can always ask for the serial number and verify it with minelab.

Bought mine new from an internet md biz for a little over a thousand that came with hundreds of dollars in extras. Call around
