Minelab Excal question?

I just bought a new Excal II with the 10" coil , I work the beach and need to cover large areas. I can tell you that the 10'' coil will find dimes at a good foot, and quarters at 14'' plus. in all metal. If your working in trashy areas the 8'' will do better. I'm sure other Excal pro's will answer this post also, so wait a day or so for more responces. Gene

Question for you.....where are you going to hunt, Ocean {Ruff Water}, Wet Beach, Gulf {Calm Water}. Lakes, Bay ...etc?
Being A Lady, Is weigh or time a factor.................Joe

the 10" if hunting the beach and 8" in the water.ya get a 2" more coverage with the 10" but the 8" is easyer to pinpoint under water and a little less resistance.

I have an eight inch and a ten inch,,,do to shoulder pain,,, I now use the eight inch and seem to do fine with it on the beach and in the water,,,,, there is a big difference swinging the eight inch in the water, less drag and easier to pinpoint targets, good luck

Given your situation, you should get the 8" coil

I Agree 100 Percent ......I have found as many if not more rings with the Excal 8 {800].My choice 75 Percent of the time. Much Easier to tune up the sensitivity, Less resistance to swing in Ruff water, Easier to Pinpoint with {which means a faster recover time on targets}, And with the weight it is much easier to handle.........Give Joe Delmarco a call and get the free Lightning Rod much better balancing then the stock S Rod. Good Luck and we expect to see some Gold Soon!..........Joe

I have an Excal II with the 10 and I think it is a little deeper but some of the pros on here swear by the 8. Im thinking of picking up an 8 for areas with a lot to discriminate to avoid nulls that overlapp good targets

I have owned both. I have depth tested each under controled conditions. I find a nearly in measurable differance in the depth on ring sized objects. There is a significant differance on can sized objects but who wants them. Unless you are a very strong woman i would not think of telling you to go for the 10 inch coil. The smaller coil will work very nicely and in the real world it will not slow you much as you can swing it just a bit quicker with less fatigue and arm strain. the 8 inch coil will concentrate the power into a smaller diameter cone and give much better discrimination, better tones for positive identification of your target.
