fixing to make a trip to a virgin shore line or beach, was wondering whats the best mode to use on safari?:confused:what settings are best for this SALT WATER SHORE LINE AND DUNES? THANK YOU FOR YOUR FEEDBACK.:twodetecting::thumbup:OOOOPS ,ALMOST FORGOT WHATS THE BEST SMALL D.D. OR SEF. COIL MADE FOR THE SAFARI?

Hey Semper Fi,
I do just a little beach hunting down here in Fl. The Safari does really well with salt water sand. Wet or dry. I normally run in all metal, auto sensitivity. Not normally looking to go really deep on the beach. Unless it is unbelievably trashy, I dig everything since it is easy in the sand. I just use the 11 inch coil so I can't help you there. I hear people go bigger on the coils at the beach. Have fun and hope to see some posts with pix soon.

FBS technology at a salt-water location is awesum.... About the sens... 2 thoughts here... run auto sens and let the detector set it.. or run manual and keep bumping it up till it gets chatty on you.. then just back it down one-two numbers... this would probably get you max depth... I personally like ferrous sounds better then conductive, but that your choice....

Bring a sturdy scoop... you will be diggin deep for targets.........

Good luck. Mark ( ohio )

Mark and Bunker gave you great advice on setting the Safari for the beach. Ditto the big scoop you will be digging some deep holes. I myself don't dig everything if it sounds like a good target I dig it. But if it jumps all over the place I don't dig it. Gold and silver will repeat both in sound and VID even if there is a lot of trash. You have had your machine long enough to know what sounds good. A nickel sounds very close to gold with both my Safari and Excal. As far as smaller coils I would highly recommend Sun-Ray X-5 or X-8. I suggest reading Bryce Brown's field tests on the Explorer forum. I think he has tested every coil that will fit a Minelab. If you have'nt read his test reviews you should do so before spending your hard earned money. Good luck and HH :minelab:

First time this last summer I ever went beach hunting was always wanting to do it for 35 years the Safari went deep worked great not use to hunting with all those people around me and I really missed cutting out plug of grass I bought about a 200 dollar sand scoop that you could stand on because everyone was out of cheaper scoops it was the best unplanned thing that scoop for me to buy it really helped in the firmer sand in the water. My whole family found a lot of coins but none very old. Found coffee cans full of big fishing sinker up to 8 oz sometimes in clusters 14 inches down to shell base. You have to be careful not to raise coil higher than control box or water will go down center of shaft.I cleaned and broke down shaft each night and cleaned with fresh water or shaft could lock up.I also packed in plastic wrap in center of lower shaft because I new I would forget and lift coil above control box.I was using 6X8 in the water because it was easier to control and pinpoint and was still going deep.Good luck on your trip.
