MINELAB PINPOINTER, ANY COMMENTS ABOUT IT?

I'M IN THE PROSSES OF GETTING A NEW PINPONTER, I KNOW THE GARRETT IS A GREAT UNIT BUT DO YOU HAVE OR HAVE USE ONE OF THE MINELAB TYPE?
PLEASE ANY COMMENTS WILL BE APRECIATED GOOD OR NOT.
The reason I'm looking onto get one is because I have a detector that interferes with the my Garrett PRO pointer.
I got one from the tools store and works good but not good depth on it.
Thank you!
Elki.

From what I have heard, the ProFind is not supposed to interfere with mds. I have not used one though.

I just got a Minlab pointer, used, but i sold my Garretts had three and they all interfered with my detector. Haven,t used the Pro Find yet but on the box it said will not inter fear with detectors. It seam like a very good pointer. If it would quit raining and snowing i will try it out.

While I don't have the Minelab, I do have a variety of pinpointers and detectors. In several combinations I have interference between the detector and the pointer, but if I lay the detector down, coil pointed to the side by 90degrees while digging/probing, it usually isn't a problem.

Before selling my Profind I didn't experience interference, nice pinpointing for sure.

Also, like the Garrett the Profind can be super tuned. The super tuner designed for the Garret will not work on the Profind because the Profind housings design will not allow the super tuner to fastern onto the correct position, so one needs to use a coin or wear a ring to super tune the Profind.

Adds extra depth super tuning the Profind, those that have a Profind give it a try. Will be amazed with the extra depth.

Thank you all for the input.
I just order one and it will arrive next week. just on time for the next hunt of the weekend.
I will let everyone knows what and how it performs against the other pin-pointers that I have.
I will take it out with the Blisstool because it's one of my 2 detectors that I have trouble, the T2-SE interferes a lot with the Garrett as well so I will try it too.
Again Thank you all!

The Minelab Profind does interefe with White's MXT's and actually worse than the GPP, even though it is not supposed to cause interference.

I was considering/watching the new ProFind to replace my Pro Pointer until I started hearing some things from people who have one and a Pro Pointer. This video comparing them in the field on undug targets was the final straw for me to make my decision to stick with the Pro Pointer...

I was and still am completely happy with the fantastic Pro Pointer. I just was considering the Pro Find if it offered even more depth. The ability to increase or decrease the sensitivity or a few other extra features weren't a selling point to me. I only wanted extra depth for those rare situations the Pro Pointer couldn't hear a target so I wouldn't have to get back up and re-find the target with my detector.

Now I just use a telescoping antenna I taped to the side of my Pro Pointer to either super or de-tune it either way. The depth just about doubles when I super tune it for those rare situations it can't hear the target. Here's a pictorial I did on that. I've tried various methods to super and detune the Pro Pointer and by far this one is the easiest and most hassle free. Plus you can do it one handed with your thumb and once set don't need to hold the tuning item in place, and it offers precise scaling to get things just right in adjustment...

I plan to ditch the tape and just Shoe Goo the antenna onto the Pro Pointer now that I know there are no issues with where I mounted it. Details in the pictorial.

Yea, I heard the Pro Find still causes interference with the MXT/M6 units and such. Most machines have no interference issues with the Pro Pointer from what I've read. Just certain ones with frequencies probably very near what the Pro Pointer uses. Works fine with my Sovereign GT. Also works fine with the FBS units. A friend has borrowed mine in the field to use with his CZ6a and haven't heard him say it's causing problems with that machine, but I didn't ask specifically.

One thing that I don't like about the Pro Pointer is the speaker slits get gummed up with dirt. A friend put tape over his and it's still plenty loud enough to hear, so I'm going to do that. I'm sick of fishing dirt out of those speaker slits so I can hear it again. Also, the rubber switch cover has issues with tearing over time and letting dirt gum up the on/off switch. I cleaned a switch on a friend's Pro Pointer with non-residue electrical contact cleaner and then covered the switch cover with a heavy coating of clear silicone. Been working great for him since then. Those switch covers just pull right off. Garrett should supply new buyers with about 3 spares in the box with instructions to swap them out every couple of years or so to prevent problems.

I didn't have to remove the circuit board to clean the switch. Just took the battery and end cap out and stood the Pro Pointer upside down so any dirt or grime washed out the bottom of it with the ultra fast evaporating contact cleaner I used. Caution: This stuff is highly flamable. If your Pro Pointer is stuck in the OFF position it WILL hold a slight charge even when the battery is removed. If you unjam the switch via the cleaning and it suddenly energizes for a split second that might be enough to cause ignition of the fumes, so be careful if cleaning one.

I don't understand HOW the Garrett pointer could interfere with anyone's detector. Do you keep it turned on while you are walking and swinging? Or is your detector's coil down in the hole you have dug alongside the pro pointer? It doesn't make any sense to me, I have never had any issues with my Garrett Pro Pointer in that respect. You are doing something wrong if you are ..

I cannot form an opinion about the Pro Find as I have never tried one, but the Garrett is about $50 cheaper ... that's a no-brainer as far as I am concerned.

I have a Minelab Propointer at the moment...also have owned the Garrett and the Uniprobe,

Uniprobe was deeper by far....but too big too carry and too sensitive. I hunt old cellar holes and I did not need a pinpointer that was that sensitive actually....plus it is dorky to carry.

Now I have the Minelab. It works...it pinpoints....it beeps it vibrates...it does what a pinpointer should do. Really not sure what all the hype is over pinpointers. Yes they should detect a target more than just when it touches the probe...older pointers sucked....the Minelab and the Garrett are great. Which is deeper in stock form is kid of laughable to me. You should be able to get close enough with your detecting and digging skills that either will work,
Now the Minelab interferes with my detector just abit...but hey it is only turned on when you are probing the dirt so really not an issue.....however it is not horrid like say my vinraprobe was with my DFX years ago....that was a nightmare. The vibraprobes sucked because you could not manually turn em off,,,,they did that on their own after a minute of no use...what a painful minute.
Either the Garrett or Minelab or good...I like both....they work plain and simple. The Garrett is cheaper which is a huge plus to me. I just have the Minelab as someone was dumping one for a great price.
So...it works well.....it does what it is supposed to....but it won't solve the energy crisis or give peace in the Mideast.

I read about the pro pointer causing interference with metal detectors but I have never read a description of the interference. Also wondering if the problem is when the pro pointer is turned on or it it all the time. I don't know that my Pro Pointer has caused any problems with my detector. When I kneel down to use the pro pointer I take my headphones off my ears and put them around my neck. I also lay the detector down on its stand.

Thank you a lot for the information, I watch the video from critterhunter and now it make me worry, Thank you creitter!
But I will let you know as soon I have it here with me and have the chance to tested out.
Mcdave, You are right with my other detector work ok and is not that it's on all the time, just to pinpoint the target but as soon I turn it on the metal detector starts shatting a lot, the only way is to put the detector away from me like 2 feet.
Thank you all for your input.
I will let you know later.
