Minelab's Rechargeable NiMH Battery Pack-vs-Reg NiMH:shrug:

Dang

I need one! But @#$%! The discounted price is a hundred bucks! So my question to you guys is....Wouldn't regular NiMH AA batteries from Walmart work just as well for my Explorer ll? :nerd:
Good ol' Dang.

Not only will Walmart's work, Internet is better yet. Nancy found (:geek: 2650 MAh NiMH Duracell's W/chargers for $20 a set. We bought two sets and they work just fine although they are a bit heavier than alkaline.

They Will work just fine, but you can not use the Minelab charger and will have to take the batteries out to recharge. James ND and a few others have the Sun Ray Q-12 charger and charging cradle that is not being made anymore and I found some 2600 nickle hydride's I have to buy 60 at a time, but are less then $1.50 I believe and James ND plus several others around here use them and we get almost twice as long as the factory pack.
These batteries can be bought in smaller quantity also, but more money each. The brand name in Tenergy and they have been doing better than some of the major brands for me.

I have been using both in my ExpII and it seems that on a whole, the battery pack full of 2400mah NIMH batteries does really well tho the NIMH battery pack seems to have a little less combined voltage than the Minelab rechargeable pack. I am still trying to figure out why this is the case but it doesn't seem to cause any problems.

cheers...Keith

OOps, the happy face is supposed to be 8..........an 8 inside of () ends up being this (:geek:.

Thanks all! I'm burning regular alkaline batteries fast because I'm constantly playing around with the settings. All part of the learning curve....

and I have tried quite a few... so far they give the most hours of operation... thomasdistributing may have them cheaper than 20 dollars

I bought a few extra alkaline packs and have them filled with the Duracell 2650's... makes it real easy if you can get hold of a smart charger and one of sunrays battery cradles... I still have my original sr charger from back in 1998... still going strong

Hi Everyone,
I have a Sovereign EX BBS purchased in 1996, and my batteries got confiscated at the airport (after September 11). Any how, I fill to get back on th as I'm planing a vacation in Cuba.
I would like to know what kind of battery to use for this unit. The terminal from the main unit/board to the battery is the same as for a 9 V battery. I remember having many AA or AAA package taped like a hand made explosive device (no wander they got confiscated at the airport???) I do not remember voltage needed and ml Amps.
If somebody has any info for the above and Cuban t-hunting as regulation or permission needed.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

So your Sovereign has been sitting idle since then.....Shame on you. :nono:
But on the bright side at least you don't have to worry about battery leakage.
I'd contact Minelab if I were you. They can tell you need to know.
