For me, the FerroCheck is another form of TID. Useful but not THE deciding factor to dig or not. It actually works very well but is not intended to be a replacement for basic skills like Audio evaluation or target interrogation.
In addition to showing a few ticks of Fe on co-located targets, it will also give a few Fe ticks to deeper targets in mineralized ground.
