Missing some basic info...

I'm new to metal detecting as such. I get here loads of info as to how to do it but it's all missing some basic info. Info that (I guess) most of you takes as obvious. Hardly anything is obvious to somebody like me. I like to understand how the things work so, can anybody point me to a post or site where basic terms and concepts are explained. What the heck is VLF or whatever? What are the principles that detectors work on? What are really the various types or varieties of detectors and I don't care about the brands. I just want to know how it works!

Hi Andy, Do a "Google" On Tesoro Electronics Inc. and order their Metal Detector Information (MDI) book. It is free and if not available at present it can be read on line. There is a great deal of info about what you are looking for with questions and answers to just about anything you need to know. HH, Charlie

I got a Garrett catalog once that had a very good glossary of general metal detecting terms that were not brand specific. You might try to google a glossary or list of metal detecting terminology.

You can Google just about anything. I typed in "How Metal Detectors work" and this was the first hit.
