Mission Peak

My cousin and I hiked Mission Peak in Janruary of this year. This mountain is in the Bay area, and has become very popular with the younger crowd in recent years due to its Facebook popularity. The summit of the mountain has a 6 foot tall pole that is used for selfies. I am not ashamed to say I took a photo hugging the pole once we reached the summit. :)It is only a 3 mile hike each way, but it is a 2000 ft+ mountain.

The cows were all over the mountain, which just so happens to be a county park. They paid no attention to any of the many hikers climbing the mountain that day. The second photo shows the view from the peak looking west towards the bay area. As you can see, it is quite developed. The houses directly in the bottom center of the photo are million dollar houses, and their owners have been complaining recently about the park's popularity, which has caused a parking issue on nearby streets. In the second photo you can also see the trail leading to the peak at bottom center. It is quite steep, needless to say.

The third photo shows Mission Peak from far below on the trail. As you can imagine, the peak appeared much closer than it was in reality. It took us about 3 hours to reach the summit, and about an hour to get back down to the parking lot. Unfortuantely, the descent wasn't as easy as one would imagine due to the constant down hill. HH and GL
