I thought it may be interesting to report the detector test results in a chart format from the work done by Staffordshire Metal Detectors in the UK. He has run a great many detectors and coil combinations through his test garden, though he used UK-style coins (Cartwheel Penny, Halfpenny, 20 Pence, 5 Pence, Medieval Penny it has utility for comparison to generic low and high conductors. He also used nails over coin combinations to test the ability to find non-ferrous amongst ferrous. The data is arranged and rated by the named columns he used: All-around performance, Overall depth, Iron test results, and lastly Very low, Low, and High conductive test results. The values are his ratings based on the detector/coil combination in his test garden, but I've normalized the results to be "out of 100" for each of the six tested categories. The highest any detector can score is 600 (100 in each category, which would be a perfect detection of all targets under all conditions). The lower the rating the less the ability for a detector/coil combination to report a target in that particular category (i.e., on buried low conductors, or amongst a swirl of buried iron nails, etc.). You can visit his site for more information (Staffs) to see the test targets or read his blog on his UK adventures. The results are for informational purposes; his UK soil conditions and detector settings may not coincide completely with results likely to occur in your neck of the woods. Enjoy!
