I went to Coins+ and picked up some more coin holders and supplies. Also picked up 500 unsearched wheat pennies. Now you know they are really unsearched. Anyway, when we got back to town, I went out detecting at the home of the lady from our church who died recently, where I found the old ladies compact I posted a couple of weeks ago. Found about 43 cents in clad and memorials. Found an old railroad spike from the old rail line that ran through that area of the city some years back. Almost ready to head for the truck when I get a pretty good signal about 8 feet from where I found that old compact. Dug down about 5 inches and there lays another old compact, about the size of a half dollar. I pull it out and shake it and I can tell there is something inside. Got back to the truck to show Joan. When I opened it up, I found the pad still inside, and two metal objects. One I could not tell what it was. The other I could see a Swastika symbol on one side. The mirror is cracked on the compact, but otherwise is in good shape. Went on down to the city park to hit another area and I saw a fellow I go to church with who was detecting. I showed him the token I had and he said he had one in his store once and a guy said it was a Girl Scout Good Luck Token. Said they used the Swastika symbol before the Nazis took it over. Got home and cleaned it up some. It says "Made for the Boy Scouts" and "Manufactured by the Excelsior Shoe Co. Portsmouth, O.

Any idea on this Token. I enjoyed uncovering that item.

Did some research and it says this Token is dated from 1910 to 1930 and was put on the official Boy Scout Shoes made by the Excelsior Shoe Company. They put this token on one of the shoe laces. The one side says "The Original Boy Scout Shoe for Boys" according to the research picture. There are several similar to the one I found but with the wording arranged different. One even says Membership Medal. The Swastika used to be used as a good luck token symbol before the Nazis took it over and made its meaning totally evil. It will go into my collection after I try and clean it up a bit more. Seen one on Ebay for $15. Wonder why it was in a compact. First thought the compact might have been an old compass, but not with the pad inside. I will always wonder who dropped it.

You did good , looks like you are learning that new detector pretty well.

Getting experience and finding goodies is what it's about plus enjoying MD'ing and God's beautiful creastions as you go :detecting: away today and during many others for a great year of nice finds! May God Bless! Amen! Ma Betty

great finds, I have seen a few of those good luck tokens dug and it is cool to see the swastika was not always a bad symbol, it used to actually be a good symbol

Definitely Boy Scounts. You will notice it is a backwards swastika.
it a good luck symbol.
Congrats!

Not really sure the case was a compact. Had a mirror and what appeared to be a pad and some reddish material on it, but maybe some boy used moms old compact. No writing on it. The other metal object inside has corroded onto the token somewhat, but I think I can clean it enough to make it presentable. Still don't know what the other metal object is, but will try and clean it more to find out.

Hi DK, it sounds like a rouge compact which is usally smaller than a powder compact! Always nice to find older relics and goodies, though! Hope your items clean up okay! May God Bless! Amen! Ma Betty
