Mulit conduct vs mulit ferrous

I am just curious what you guys use and why. What is the difference? When I use conduct I have trouble telling the difference between iron and and other things because of the high conductivity of big iron (that is without looking at the screen). In Ferrous with multi tone everything else almost sounds the same but iron is really different, so you dig all the pull tabs but no iron (if you do not use the screen).

I am a little confused.

HAHA welcome to the world of etrac well there are guys that only use conductive and guys that will only use ferrous i am one of the latter so can only speak to you about the ferrous settings which i have had alot of success with i dig all high tones and ignore the low tones i dig generally by sound only sometimes i check the screen but if i get a two way tone i am happy to dig someone will come on and give you thier take on conductive and it is always interesting to listen to everyones take there are people out there that say in conductive they can tell what they are digging prior to digging but i am not one of these people THANKS FOR PUTTING UP THIS TOPIC it will be interesting to see the replies

There is lots of past information on the fourm about this topic as well. I use both but ...mostly conductive but swithing back and forth is hard as you have to re train your method bit. try them in your favorite spot and then stick with it.

these are mostly regarding TTF. That is not what I was inquiring about but I do appreciate your help.

(edit) oops sorry just realised you have muilt-ferrous but I've reffered to TTF, personally I wouldn't ever touch that, but read on and take from it what you will. Cheers Greg

I like them both in particular situations.

I like Multi Conduct 95% of the time, I dig a lot of very deep coins on the edge of detection range in difficult soil. With these coins the FE numbers can shift to the lower half of the screen.....which would be a low tone in TTF and i'd walk right over it. Also in multi, I can also get a sense of weather the target is smooth or not, and you don't get that info in TTF, it's just a "ferrous or non-ferrous" indication.

Now if i'm in an iron patch, (e.g. outside an old stable) TTF is very good and in it's element, here it has the jump over multi. However, in iron patches ignore the numbers as nearby iron will pull your CO numbers all over the place.

Id suggest you store a multi and a TTF mode and work out if they work for you and at what sites. Patterns and modes are a very individual thing, just get out there

Cheers and good hunting,
Greg

Note:
My Multi pattern is a slighty modified version of AndyS's Coin pattern (very good pattern).
My TTF pattern is an open screen with a small strip across the top where large iron will false, but leave room for large silver. (Get AndyS's coin & delete all but the strip accross the top)

Welcome to the often untold dark side of FBS technology. You will waste countless 100,s of hours trying to find the deepest best setting for the etrac when in fact it can be set to the simplest settings in less than one minute and out perform most any other detector on the market. But sadly, that path is rarely taken at first. I feel you will take the dark path as I did and others, but the good news is that next year you will find harmony with your etrac and use a setting that you will be happy with and will rarely change and find a lot of great finds.I use a Safari since I am still in recovery and it goes as deep as etrac and I am finding many great things.I sure miss the beep dig days of the 70's when a bad day was less than 2 dollars in silver.I like conductive personally.Whatever free time you thought you had is now gone.Good Luck
