MXT nothing special for coins

I am interested in the MXT I primarily hunt coins old and new but some people say it is just a ok detector for that purpose. Can I hear some opinions?

In my short (6 mo's) experience with the MXT I've found it to be a VERY capable coin machine. Maybe not the hardest hitting on deep silver and copper coins ( again, not real experienced but I have found only a couple silver's, but I"ve read that that's the general consensus ) Great coin and all-around machine. If the MXT wasn't a good coin finder and only an "OK" machine, I wouldn't have had mine for almost 9 years. I HONESTLY wouldn't trade it for any other type of machine. I've found many MANY coins, etc.. Old and new! My Experiences I can run with the BIG boys and hold my own. Just ask Larry! HH, Nancy

I haven't used everything out there, but of what I have used, I'd have to say the MXT is a very capable coin machine. I've found many, many coins with mine.

Haven't posted in a while, but glad to be back on the Forum. Hi ALL!! The MXT is a coin magnet, IMO. I'm hitting coins at various depths to more then 12 inches. Some of my large cents and colonial buttons have come from 12" or more. I've had my Lesche in holes deep enough to be above the end of the handle at the point I found the item. At 5, 6, 7 inches, etc, it makes sense that it performs in top notch fashion.

Been pretty good to me. Good on silver: Halves, Quarters, Mercury, Rosies, Barbers, Seated. Good on nickels: Silver, Buffaloes, Shields. Good on Indians too. Just have to learn the machine. It will reach down and get them,

i have felt the same way after using the idx pro and getting an mxt, the idx identifies coins better and a quarter signal is always a qurter or something better, The idx may not however go as deep as the mxt.,as far as silver finds they are both about equal.One thing i noticed is the mxt freq is pretty good at finding nickles which means more ring finds.I haven't had the mxt long enough ,i may change my mind .stay tuned jim

tell you .... the MXT is solid!

I find it very, very good on coins. VDI 18 = Older Nickel 95% of the time. I''ve had no issue picking up all other denominations of clad. Up here in Canada, our modern (2000+) clad is steel core with a Copper/Nickel plating. I know some other brands have a hard time even seeing them, but the MXT has no problem locking on. Just have to know what VDI's to look for. Only problem is that they rot so fast, similar to your zincolns.

I have an MXT and bought a used EXP II because I thought I needed one. I regularly alternate between the EXP II and the MXT. I find twice the coins with the MXT and am now selling the EXP II. I just wish I could get more depth. I have never pulled a coin deeper than 5".

I've been hunting with an MXT for the last couple years and find the mxt to be more than adequate at finding coins. Just last week on a camping trip in Montana I hunted the 13 site campground we were staying at and pulled out approx. 40 coins, one of which was a Sacajawea commerative 1$ piece.

I highly recommend a copy of "The MXT Edge" by Jeff Foster. I am still gleaning information from that fantastic reference manual dedicated to the MXT.

The MXT has a "cherry picking" setup that discriminates out everything but coins so its a quick start to lots of coin hunting success. (Although the cherry picking setup does lose nickles, it finds the rest).

I think the MXT is a great multi mode machine, but until you learn how to interpret its sounds (hence the MXT EDGE for a quick start) you will dig lots of trash as it finds lots of stuff.

I have yet to use it for nugget shooting, but believe that it will matchup well as its prospecting mode is derived directly from the Whites GMT gold machine.

MXT is a coin killer. You won't get the depth but anything under 6" is going to be detected. I just finished a 3 hour hunt in NC and pullled 85 coins from a SUPER trashy site. Including a 1943-P War Nickel, a 1951 Rosie and three wheats. I had real Etrac envy but as my silver count increases I am getting less and less envious. I believe I am finally in love with my MXT after 18 months and trying out an EXP II.

Jim - You can get far more than 6" deep coins as I mentioned previously. With the coils available for the MXT and knowing that detector will do it for you. No doubt about it.

I'm with Abe, Jim. Looks like you did great especially for a bad trash site. I know dealing with trash and your ground will affect your depth but I would think you could get considerably more depth with your machine. Which coil(s) are you using ? I don't know your experience but I know that once I learned how to properly GB and set up my MXT it is DEFINITELY consistently getting considerably more depth than when I was just setting the machine up blindly. Unless you're certain you KNOW how to maximize the MXT I would recommend picking up Jeff Foster's book. The several pages that cover proper ground balancing and audio stability alone are worth the price of the book several times over IMO. Along with the proper coil selection ( and the MXT has a LOT of them ) this machine should get you down quite a bit deeper. I get strong, accurate signals with my 6x10 as deep as 7"+ and fainter signals deeper obviously. My D2 was pulling short high tones ( relic mode ) as deep as 10"-11" yesterday although in honesty I didn't dig them yet. Deepest coin I've pulled has been around 8" or 9". Hope that helps.
