I made this to run the coil cable up inside my SAFARI's lower rod. It may work for you as well.

My $1.57 in materials COIL SNAKE to run the cable up inside the lower rod.

[size=large]i for one don't understand the need. i thought the safari was like the explorers. you feed the coil thru the lower shaft with no problem. take the upper shaft and drop it over the coil end and down over the lower shaft. the plug ends up sticking out the top by a few inches. what's differant?
i must be missing something. i don't have a safari so don't know.

Nice idea. On my Explorer I have a hard time snaking the cable of my 1050 coil, but the cable of my 6'' goes much easier. The plug on the 1050 always seems to get stuck and I have to tie it and pull it through with something. One time I used my shoe lace as I couldn't find anything else!

I do not believe that the lower rods of the SAFARI and your machine are the same. I have been on a quest to buy lower rods for the SAFARI to make coil change quicker, and have asked in the forum if other lower rods would work other than SAFARI. The response that I received it no.
Your experience may vary, but trying to thread and then shove the SAFARI cable though the slot and up the lower rod is a interesting experience for me. That is why I came up with this device.

First off, you live in a great state. I worked in radio in Decatur, and then in Muscle Shoals back in the early 70's. LOVED IT! Only woman who I ever asked to marry me was a background singer at WIDGET studios. Sang background for a lot of groups, including (pardon my lapse of memory) either Leon Redbone, or, Leon Russell, one of them recorded there back then. For a couple years after I left, I would visit Alabama and always felt like I was "home" when I would cross the state line. Alabama holds some really great memories for me.
You have a great state in which to hunt relics. I really envy you.
The beauty of this snake is the slip loop that you can tighten over the coil plug, drag it through the lower rod and then easily loosen it after you have gotten it through the upper rod. (at least that is the way I do it on a SAFARI.)
Hope the snake is of help. Cheap enough to make at $1.57.

A lot of people find it a clean plus having the wire tucked away. Personally i found it a plus to add the inline probe so i could change coils quicker. I use dental floss.... cheap, easy to carry and fast.

Thank you, Dirt Poor. It works for me. If others have neat tricks that they prefer, then that is what is best for them.

Thank, you. The lower rods being the same contradicts what someone told me when I was attempting to buy more lower rods for my Safari. This is good to know.
