My 1st Shield Nickel - 1867!!!!!

Went out today with 2 of my buds out in the woods again. We bumped around to a few places then decided to go back over to where 1 bud found 2 perfect condition Barber dimes last week. This is what I found, an 1867 (no rays) Shield Nickel dow around 4 inches deep!!! This is my 2nd oldest coin that I found after my Large Cent from a few weeks ago!!! This coin still has the edge around the rim and all of the high relief details on it but the ground wasn't kind to it, but I am super happy that I found it, heck I haven't even found a V-Nickel yet this year! I also found a 1919 & 1946d Wheaties.

Oh one of my bud's found a perfect 1912d Barber Dime and a few Wheaties one of them being a 1914 (no D) and my other bud found a few Wheaties.

Here is the Barber Dime my budy found!!!!!

Those Shield Nickels are hard to come by around here but every so often one is found. Too bad it didn't hold up better from the elements and ground conditions. It's still a sweet find though and another 1st to check off on your list of finding. Congrats on a great find and hope the next one you find is in a lot better shape. Good Luck and HH to you.:detecting:

I picked up a V nickel the other day, 1883, but it was in horrible shape worn almost smoth and red as clay. That shield may clean up pretty good. Wow that dime is superb... now those are great finds.

Be careful cleaning it or you'll rub the date right off like I have with several!

Awesome find Fiend. Congrats.

20+ years for me and I am still looking for my first one.

:super:  :detecting:
