A lot of Minelab users are passing by the Quattro because others have had bad experiences with it.....I must have gotten one of the good Quattros, because I had lots of fun with it and rank it right up there with the best... Maybe Minelab with upgrade the software and remove the glitches (I didn't have or didn't recognize).... I sure hope so.....Not wanting to start anything but just wanting to give the Quattro a  Best to all, Richardntn

Gi'day Richard,
Look, I've heard the same thing, people having problems with the quattro. Haven't heard of it here in Australia. (Maybe it's happened, don't know) But I thought it would be appropiate to say something here: when my hubby first started using my quattro, he thought something was wrong with the machine, he just couldn't figure it out. I believe he was so used to years of detecting with gold detectors, that he expected the quattro to react on similar terms. But he soon learned that he had to basically retrain himself, relearn, as he was dealing with a totally different concept of detector. He was almost going to take it back to Minelab to get it checked out. I talked him out of it. As I didn't have a great deal of experience with using gold detectors, I sort of come into it new, with no expectations. I had to be patient but after a few weeks of constant use, I was reaping the rewards. He has since bought, and now uses, the Explorer ll and really loves it. I do think that perhaps Minelab could up their quality control measures, but overall, the quattro turned out to be a damn good machine. Just my thinking on it!!!:spin:
Cheers Angela

I agree 110% love this machine I've never found coins deeper, and I hunt some pretty trash filled spots. Nuf said......

I agree with you Richard, Some people seem to have had problems with there switch to the quattro, I think one of the problems is that people seem to be under the impression that they can just carry on using the Quattro in the same way as there previous detector which you cannot, Every brand/name of detector has its own way that it likes treating, Some like to be swung fairly fast and others don't (like the quattro and explorer) So one has to give the quattro a fare go and find these ways it likes being used before quiting on it.
The other thing that seems to be a problem for new minelab owners to get there heads round is the massive amount of information/sounds/noise that the quattro sends to your ears, I must admit that the first time i tried the quattro out i thought WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE ? So many different sounds and whistles, But by sticking with it one soon figures out whats going on and starts to understand what all the different sounds mean !

So if anyone is reading this post and is thinking about exchanging their quattro for another make of detector i would say "STICK WITH IT !" And forget how you used to operate your last detector, For this is a different beast altogether, And if you do decide to get rid of it you will be missing out on owning one of the most capable detectors on the market !

to stick to the factory presets and go somewhere there are coins...a park a playground.... don't go to a place that has been pounded and at first think your gonna get the ones that everybody has missed...maybe later with some time under you belt...this is true of the Quattro but especially of the Ex II... Best to all and stay warm,
oh I forgot, you folks down there in Austrialia, it's summer...oh well, gud-dey maetes...Richardntn

Hey, Ravenge, you couldn't be more "right on" here as far as I'm concerned. I had the same problem when I first got my Quatro, and I even started getting a little "attitude" going because of just what you said. I was thinking, "Gee, I'm a pretty smart guy, I've had other detectors and stuff and what's all these crazy noises going on here". I did what you did and stuck with it, and I also bought Andy Sabisch's book Mastering the Quatro, and by going through that step by step and just practicing with it, I too, finally started to sort out the different sounds. When I reflect on all this now, I think that the Quatro is so sensitive that it just picks up a "ton" of information and we just have to learn to sort it out. One thing that really helped me get over the frustration thing is that I bought a 5" coil for the really trashy areas and that really helped to sort the different noises out. You can really zero in on individual targets better with the 5", but I hear that it won't go as deep as the bigger coils, so I usually use the standard coil that came with the detector. I live in San Diego, California, and I've used other detectors, but I've never had one that came anywhere close to how well the Quatro works at the beach or anywhere else for that matter. I'm just knocked out how I almost never have any ground problems, i.e. chattering or falsing at the beach. I used to have tons of mineralization and salt water falsing with my other units, but very, very rarely with Quatro, and talk about deep. I mean deep, and if you don't believe me, ask Mike from Virginia Beach. You guys take care out there and everybody have a nice Christmas. Who knows, maybe Santa will bring us some extra accessories for our detectors if we're good boys and girls, but then again maybe not, but
"who cares"? We've got the main accessory we need for metal detecting and that's a Minelab Quatro. Boy, I'm really on my soap box here!!! Guess I better go grab a cup of coffee and shut up. :|:O:geek::(:|:geek:

Ive had my Quattro for a couple months now and am just now really starting to figure it out...The Quattro coupled with the X1 probe
is a awesome combination!! Im a noobie at this hobby but I feel I bought the best...You just have to read Andys book a few times and use your garden frequently and then BAM it will all come together
Happy Hunting and Merry Christmas
Phil
