Here are the finds I got a week ago that I haven't posted. I delayed my posting due to the recent events on here about my posts. I thank you all that have stuck up for me now and in the past since every find I have posted has been 100% Factual and I have never posted any finds I never made. It takes me hours just to sort my finds, scan them, clean them, re-scan them and then do up the story that goes with the finds made for that particular outing or weekend. Everyone posts their finds here no matter how few or how many they get on their outings and I do the same. I feel that it isn't right to be judged just because of the amount of finds I post because I get to detect half a day on Friday (if I want to) and full days on Saturday and Sunday and can travel and hit spots that I have never detected before and find out that they yield a lot. Some tell me that the finds I get isn't worth the time and effort but I never got into this hobby to make money....I got into it to go out and relax and find a few lost Coins and whatever else I may uncover on my outings and try and save a few things from being lost forever. I must also remind you all that this Forum is here to post your finds and we all should get along no matter who's finding what or how much. There shouldn't be any confrontations just because I or anyone else keeps bringing home lots of great stuff to post. We all work very hard to get what we do and all love posting our finds for others to see. If you want to increase your chances at finding more things, do the research, go out on a road trip to somewhere you've never hunted and relax and enjoy the day. If you go out with a negative attitude, your results will reflect this so be positive. Let's all get along and help everyone if they need it. That's why I'm here and many of us others....to help others and give them a chance to make some great finds and post them here. Now with that said, let's get to the finds
Saturday, Tim and I headed out again and I don't know when Tim will be going back out since Antelope Season is one of his favorite things to do so he wanted to get out at least once more before he went hunting. We decided to hit a couple towns that were out of the way that we passed up on recent visits.
The first site was a large vacant lot owned by the city. It was situated next to the Railroad and I thought maybe there could have been houses there at one time. I decided to walk over to the one side and start working there since this would have been the front yards. About 20 minutes went by and I finally got my first Coin. It turned out to be a 1923 Wheatie. I then started working this area and found a Sterling Silver Ring and an Indian Head. The Indian Head I banged up pretty good and didn't like seeing that but what can a person do but cut a bigger plug next time. This one was dated 1898. I then told Tim I got a Ring and a Injun and he hadn't found anything but Junk so far. We continued hunting for another hour or so. I got towards the railroad tracks where a backyard may have been and got a good repeatable signal. I dug down and out pops a Wheatie dated 1919. I covered the hole up and re-scanned the area. Another target was in the hole. I initially though another Wheatie so I re-opened the hole up and dug the dirt back out. I stuck the Probe in and it was off to one side. I dug some dirt out and put it on the small pile. I then seen the edge of a Penny sticking straight up. Wheatie I thought! I picked it up and seen it was an Indian Head. I was kinda shocked when I seen it and when I looked at the date of it, I was REALLY SHOCKED!
It turned out to be a well worn 1871 Indian Head!
I then called over to Tim and told him I had an Indian Head for him to try and beat since he is always telling me to try and beat his Oldest Coin. He asked what and I told him 1871. He couldn't believe it! He then told me that it must be a good one since he has never found an 1871 Indian before and I hadn't either until now. I don't know if this was with the Wheatie or if the Wheatie was lost later on in the general location but I'm just glad I came across this Coin since the back was just starting to get them small black dots on it that won't come off and if they do, they show small pitted spots in those areas. Tim finally found a Merc, a couple Wheats and a rolled Proctor-Gamble Token. He also found a V-Nickel next to a sidewalk. I ended up finding 2 Indian Heads, 3 Merc's, a Silver Rosie, a few Wheats, an Aluminum Good For Token, an Older Jefferson Nickel and the Sterling Silver Ring.
Site 2 was a Park that looked very good when we first seen it. It had 2 Gazebo's, one made out of Stone Blocks and the other made from Concrete with Stucco on the outside. Both Tim and I found a Wheatie as soon as we started hunting and after that it was pretty dead due to ground work being done at one time. Tim found a nice Sterling Silver Ring with Polished Agate over by a Flower Garden. We then started working back towards the car. I popped out a Sacagawea Dollar which I don't find that often so I posted that also. We got over in the area where we got our Wheats before and then we started to find a few more. We hunted this for another 30 minutes or so and Tim ended up getting a few Silver Rosie's and some Wheats. I ended up getting 2 Merc's, a 1897 Indian Head, and a few Wheats. We then drove around the town to see what else there was. We come across a spot that was next to the railroad and it had some good sized trees in it and looked like an Old Railroad Park. We stopped and looked at it and decided to try it. As Tim was getting his gear ready, he tells me that there is a concrete sign over in the corner that reads City Park on it. I looked over and there it was. The Trees and Brush were covering most of it up so it was hard to see. I walked that way and on one side it had the date of 1921 so I take it that is when the Railroad may have given the Park to the City. Tim ended up getting a Silver Quarter, 2 or 3 Merc's, a Barber Dime and a few Wheats from here. I ended up getting a Barber Dime, 2 Merc's, an Indian Head and a few Wheats. We then moved onto another location.
We found some vacant lots and proceeded to hunt these for the rest of the day. We got the go ahead to do them but they were tough to detect due to the grass not being mowed for a long time. It was tough to get the Coil close to the ground but we did find a few keepers. Tim ended up getting a few Wheats, a Merc, an Older Canadian Penny and a Railroad Baggage Tag. I found a Good For Token, a 1905 Indian Head, a Worcester Salt Token and a few Wheats. I also found a neat Pin manufactured for National Tuberculosis Assn. We then packed it in and called it a day. I found 7 Silver on Saturday and the Wheat count was 21.
Sunday, I decided to go hit some local Road Construction once again and see if I couldn't scrounge up a few keepers. I hunted for a good 6-7 hours on Sunday and did get some nice keepers. I only got 3 Silver which was 3 Merc's. I ended up finding a 1906 Indian Head, 24 more Wheats, another Sterling Silver Ring, an Older Bus Token, an All Quality Mints Token, Pendant from Josten's, a couple Keys and part to a Cuff Link. I also found 3 Bottles and posted them as well. I'm sure they are from the 50's or 60's since the housing in that area is that time period.
Totals were 10 Silver. They were 1 Barber Dime dated 1908-d, 7 Mercury Dimes dated 1916,1917,1928,1935-s,1942-d,1944,1945-d and 2 Roosevelt Dimes dated 1947 and 1957. I got 1 Sacagawea Dollar dated 2000-p. 1 Nickel was found and that was a 1955-d Jefferson. I got a couple Tokens this time around also. 2 of them are still soaking and have some crud build-up on them so not sure if they have a town listed. These 2 are the Aluminum Square Token that reads Good for 5c In Trade and the Brass Token that reads Good For $1.00 In Merchandise. Hopefully I can get the crud off and post pics later. The other 3 Tokens were a Northern Transfer Company / Good For One Fare Bus Token, a Good For A 5c Package Of Mints / All Quality Mints Token and the Worcester Salt The Standard For Quality / Membership Emblem Of The Don't Worry Club Good Luck Token. I was able to uncover 5 Indian Heads this time and one was a good one. They are dated 1871,1897,1898,1905 and 1906. Wheats consisted of the following. 09,11,(4)17,18,(2)19,19-d,19-s,(2)20,23,25-d,26,26-d,28-d,28-s,30,30-d,35,(2)35-d,36,37-d,41,(2)44,44-s,(3)45-d,46,(3)46-d,48-d,49-d,50,51-d,53-d,53-s,55-d and 56-d. There were 3 Bottles found also, 2 Blue ones with Plastic Screw Caps and 1 Brown One with a Rusted on Screw Cap. For Misc. Finds, I got a Sterling Silver Ring with some kind of fancy designed Black Stone in it, another Sterling Silver Ring, a couple Keys, a Modern Health Crusader Pin made for the National Tuberculosis Assn., a Boy's State South Dakota Pin, a Josten's Pendant that has Senior '91 on it with B for Bruins with AMS on the back, and part of a Cuff Link. Lots of stuff again and hope you enjoyed the finds. Thanks for looking and Good Luck and HH to you all. Hope you got out some on this Labor Day Weekend.
