MY BEST COIN FINDS: TWO(2) 1916 D MERCURY DIMES

I feel very fortunate to have dug up two 1916 D Mercury dimes in my md'ing career. Th nicest one was found back in the 70's in the outfield of a Midwestern Illinois park ball diamond. Notice the detail on it. The poorest one was found in the front yard of an old couple's home. It was found in the '80's. Back then, I had some pretty bad digging habits and probed with a screwdriver as indicated by the nicks on the coins. I have learned a lot in later years. Many coin dealers don't even have one of these.

Nice mercs even though it looks worn.
I'm assuming it's a rarer coin.

Ouch those nicks are killing me. That top coin might be a ten thousand dollar dime without them. I bet you could still get 4-5 grand for it. Possibly more. Hard to tell from a photo. I found a dime that looked a lot like the one in the bottom photo in a big box of merc dimes a while back. I sold it for 450 bucks pretty easily. I thought it would sell for more. Great finds.

Very nice. One of my favorite coins. I have a bunch of them but not that date. Those puppies are worth a ton these days. You are very fortunate to have scored those two beauties. If I had them I'd sit up and watch them all night.
