My Coinstrike

[size=medium]Fisher Classic People, I have mentioned this in replies and haven't gotten any response at all? I sent my C$ in to Fisher to be repaired, Felix called and stated it had a bad coil. He stated Fisher didn't have a coil for my C$ and I am pretty sure he said it would take them about 2 weeks to make me a new one? Do you Classic Fisher people think they can make a new C$ coil just like that? And here is my other question, The new coil feels like it is a bit heavier, what are everyone's thoughts about my Idea that the newly made coil might be made using more modern technology? It works so well now and is so quiet, could the new coil be shielded somehow? What would make a coil heavier? Any input would be appreciated Thanks GL & HH Pat

If its working good it sounds like they got the job done!!! It may be wound a little more which causes a little more weight.

Your Coinstrike like mine had a bad coil!

Did they go out and just make you a new one, probably not! With out knowing for sure I'm going to say that there is a better chance that its true First Texas may not have any CS coils for sale, but they may have held on to a small lot of them for the service department (repairs only)
Those CS's can still be found new from time to time, my second one I got a couple of months ago is NEW, I just sent in the warranty card.

When mine had the bad coil it was so noisy that you couldn't tell what it was doing, it seemed to be trying to work, but man was it a crap detector.

Then, my co-worker came up with a CS also, I was complaining about how noisy mine was while he kept saying how great his was, he said he could turn his on at any setting and it ran fine :ranting: (I kept thinking I didn't have something set right, LOL)

So, one day I set up a meet with him and we changed control boxes, his CS and my coil, my CS and his coil. He took off running with the trade and said mine was fine! I said well here try this one!!!! after about two minutes he said "Good Griff" this thing is JUNK! so, then he had me try mine with his coil, "WoW" it was so quite it was unbelievable.

The only way to know if your coil is heavier than an original coil is to weigh them. But I'm going to say that newer if any difference would be lighter not heavier.

I have my little CS-5 coil mounted up right now, so if I can find some way of getting an accurate weight measurement on it I'll post it here.

I bought a new Coinstrike several years ago and it never worked. There were so many post and some were saying people were just unknowledgeble about how to use it, so I assumed the problem was me. Anyway I moved on and got other detecdtors and the thing is still sitting not used. Did you ever get so discouraged after trying and trying that you just gave up? Guess that is what I did.

That was just where I was at with mine!
It seemed to work, but it was a joke for a detector!
I thought it was me, but as much as I tried and tired I couldn't get the settings right.
I couldn't sell it like,
I did think about sending it in for repairs, but like you all the post stated that they were hard to learn to run.
I was just about to toss it in the closet and forget it!!
I really didn't think it was a bad coil, but when I had the option to switch units with another CS owner I thought why not! I didn't have nothing lose.
Switched coils and man what a difference! Now I have two Coinstrikes.

"adak" I take it you only have the one stock coil? if you could find somebody that you could meet up with and do a coil swap I'm going to say that you would be amazed if that was your problem.

Thanks mark, I just gave up on it, but think I will send it in for repairs. It's my fault I got so discouraged with it. Just wanted to master using it and then as time passed I sat it asside. I was surprised to check the forum and see that it is still a respected machine, that helps. Something odd about the Coinstrike, I wanted to like it and kinda do like it and it don't even work! Guess I had great ideas when I ordered it. I know now something is wrong with the unit but no one in my remote area to one on one with. It was supposed to have a lifetime warranty, guess I will see.

First Texas will not honor the OLD Fisher's Lifetime Warranty!!!! (not officially anyway) It would take a PM or email to explain that.

When I found out for sure mine had a bad coil I found a used one here on the forum for $40.00 and that took care of the it.
I had $270.00 in it shipped,
$40.00 in a replacement coil,
So I ended up with $310.00 in it, at the time that was still a good deal for a CS.

In the end the CS when its not got a bad coil only had a few dislikes,
The hoping around the menu system, (but when its working right I don't have to change setting very often, so I'm okay with that)
The touch pad pin-point should have NEVER HAPPENED! all detectors should use a forward mounted index finger "Toggle".
and last but the most common complaint is rusty screw caps.

All the other hate post that I have found plays out with the sound of one with a bad coil! I can't prove it, they won't admit it, but ALL the hate hate post have the same common elements,
Bought new!
As much as I tired I could not make it work right,
It was just so noisy that I (they) gave up on it,
And none of those ended with them being able to switch out coils with somebody, and they for sure wasn't going to buy a second coil for something as nutty as that.

What I can't prove is that I feel the possibility that there was a run of CS's that came out of the oven with bad coils???? (that's not a fact).

In talking to Felix I am almost sure he said they were making a coil for it because they had none, Hard to say? I would like to test the weight I swung the old one long enough to know what it felt like. Mine was the most unstable, noisy, TID flipping, MD I ever saw, It was very obnoxious! I used the thing up to the day before I shipped it to Fisher picking my good tones out of the continuous tones, then trying to average the Fastest changing TIDs that actually looked like a one wheeled slot machine on full spin. Like anyone with a bad C$ I learned how to flip through the menu and change adjustments pretty fast. I like you, think they had a run of bad coils also. Adak If you thought you would like the C$ if it worked right or you could figure it out, I would send it in and I would expect them to Honor the warranty! As far as the rusty screw caps goes I find those also, But hey my xterra 705 loves the deep aluminum caps too, by deep I mean depth of the caps themselves, what are they 5/8th inch of threads? What I don't like is the weight! Mine is in the Classifieds here right now for that reason alone! Mark CZ what model Fisher do you think you would have to buy now to get the C$ depth? And what would it weigh? Thanks for the replies guys,,,,,,GL & HH ..........Pat

They WILL NOT honor the old Fisher's lifetime warranty! I've been around this issue before.
When the Coinstrike first came out its my understanding it came with a lifetime warranty, but the later models didn't!
The one I have has copper or copper looking battery contacts, the second one I got has shiny silver VERY stiff battery contacts and it came with a five year warranty.

Warning! Do Not Send the Coinstrike in and expect it covered under warranty. Yes, with a good lawyer and a court battle it may be possible (????) to force their hand and then again maybe not (???)

First Texas offers a FIVE year warranty on their detectors,
its not transferable!
And there is NO lifetime warranties!

My suggestion would be to put out a plea for someone with a good working CS to let you try out their coil, if it turns out to be the problem then I would just shop the classifieds or ebay for a used coil. And if you find I would ask the seller to give you a 'DOA' guaranty.

Also with some research you I think you can use a ID Edge coil, but you have to open up the connector and connect the braid up to the connector housing. If you go that route do a little research before you buy the edge coil.

Get something in the Cz Line the depth will match or beat the Coin Strike and they are much simpler to use!! Trust me I have a CZ-5 and absolutely love it and wouldn't trade it for anything!!

ID Edge coils work well on the C$ without doing any wiring changes. I have both detectors. The C$ is easy to use, just set the Threshold at 0 or maybe minus 5. Later you can adjust the Threshold to minus 10 or more. The soil in my area is fairly mild, so I can keep my Threshold at 0. In more mineralized soil the Threshold might be better if set at minus 10 or 20 to eliminate ground effects. Owners say the C$ is great in highly mineralized soil.

I traded a VERY nice CZ-7a pro away so I could get my second CS. If the coinstrike has a good coil on it, just turn it on and set the threshold to -15 and set the sensitivity to around 7, notch foil and run it!
Turn it off,
change the batteries,
whatever and when you power it back up it keeps the last ran settings. Its very simple! unless its got a bad coil, and no matter what you do or what you change you'll find your always chasing them, but its to no avail! its broken. A good coil and its sweet.

Mark he's got it up for sale on the classifieds due to the weight of it and he had asked what Fisher detector would get as good of depth thats why I reccommended the CZ also its hip mountable which cuts down on the weight which the coinstrike is hip mountable to!

WoW!
That's a bit sad.
The C$ is a bit heavy, but as compared to MANY other current brands and models, its not that bad.
Like you said its hip mountable,
a home made slingy-thingy can reduce the fill of the weight to near zero on the arm, my brother Ron forum member WV62 has worked out a pretty good and very simple version of it.

The C$ most times in the open market doesn't bring very much money these, that's one reason they have become "A Best Buy" in the used or even new market.
I recently landed a Brand New one with warranty for $325.00

The most temping offer I've seen lately to move a nice C$ was a guy that had a Omega 8000 that was wanting to trade it for a two coil package C$. Me having two C$'s I was a little tempted to go for that deal, I've had a bit of interest in an Omega but with the mixed reviews I've seen I wasn't willing to go for that deal.

For what it would be worth my suggestion would be if the real problem is weight would be to send my brother a PM work out some email details with and have Ron send him some pics of this almost nothing to make slingy-thingy.
It consist of simple to finds items like,
shoulder strap of off a sport bag of gym bag (don't have one, I bet Goodwill does)
A bungee cord,
Two or three nylon ties.

Going the extra distance he did to get his C$ working right is good, but I don't know that it increased the price over other mint condition good working ones. Now the fact that it just came back from Fisher with a clean bill of health will help some by putting a person at ease about it not having any serious issues.

I've watched a lot of the C$'s move through the for sale adds here and on ebay and TD over the last year plus and the price range is from $250.00 to around $350.00

I wish him the best with his sale, be maybe use it for awhile and count the time as part of recouping some of the repair cost.
During that time, poor over the wanted adds on the forums and watch for some body that has some High Dollar, High End detector that has hook up buddies with that has a C$ and has gotten skunked a few times and wants to do as good as his buddy and has put out a plea for a CS. He could the most money that way, or the best trade.

Mark your right about that CS on the price that's the going rate .They take some time to learn but once you master it they are great machines! I had one and sold it like an idiot wish I could afford to get another one! Right now I am pretty happy with what I am using a CZ-5 and the 1270 I got from your brother Ron! Man he takes care of his equipment!!

Yea, he does, I heard the post office was so kind with those 1265 battery cover latches. Those came from Kieth Wills at broken detectors .com a LONG time ago.
Mark

I got the 1265 fixed up with what the post office didn't destroy they worked like a charm!! He helped me out big time on that those are as hard to find as hens teeth!! Heck the post office threw in a toy tank in the package who that was supposed to go to Lord only knows!!

For real?? you got a toy tank in that package I sent? They must have got bunch of packages caught in something and just started putting stuff back in what ever package was close at hand. Kind of funny  but at least you got what you needed to get that old 1265x going.

Ron in WV

Yep toy tank was in the package and I didn't even have to use my detector to find it like I have many other toy cars and such!!
