My ETRAC Busted Today! :super:

I was out hunting after I worked all day. I got permission to hunt an old house. I got a signal, and I was in a really old part of the country in Virginia here. I dug with my shovel, and uncovered what I thought was a large cent. I couldn't make it out too well, but then, I saw the figure wasn't right. What is this, some foreign coin, I thought......then I turned it over and saw "ONE CENT" on the Reverse. What??? I turned it back over, and licked the front.....mmmmmmm Virginia dirt! LOL I walked back to my truck, and got my magnifying glass....OMG A Draped Bust!!!!

I looked lower for the date....the coin was minted 31 years after our country was founded.......an 1807 Draped Bust Cent!!!!!! Happy Dance!!!!!!! I called my hunting buddy back home, Robert, to Brag....just a bit...we tease each other, but if truth be known, he is a better detectorist than I......Anyway, he called back later after he got my message and tol me that one of them was really rare.....an 1807 over 6 stamp. I told him that was not what I had....darn the luck!

When I got back to my RV for the night, I went across to my neighbor, who is really interested in metal detecting, after having talked with me about our wonderful hobby. I told him to get a flashlight, that I wanted to show him why I metal detect. He brought one out, and shone the light on the coin. Time for surprise number 2........I am pretty certain I see the 6 beneath the 7 on the Obverse of the coin. What do ya'll think? Is she or is she not an 1807 over 6 coin?

I am going to soak her in olive oil, unless you guys tell me to do something different. She shattered my previous record on age, by some 40+ years. After all my hard work here in Virginia, just before I leave, th good Lord has blessed me with such a great part of our history.......that is her meaning to me. Most of our Founding Fathers were alive when she was made......it is an awesome save from the ground. I will remember the hunt for many years to come.....she may not be in the most pristine condition, but, OMG, how awesome that she has graced my collection....

Dennis, the STOKED!

Looks like an overdate to me. Just a suggestion, get it professionally cleaned and graded. Congratulations on you great old find. Gotta love those E-tracs.:beers:

This is one of the most exciting stories I've heard in a while! A HUGE Congratulations to you. Looking forward to hearing more about this coin and seeing how it is after the grading and all. Keep us posted.

Congratulations Dennis. Awesome find!

Hey, Great coin !!! It is an over date but not the rare over date. There are a couple of over dates and that one I believe is the one referred to in Breen's book as #1768 (also Sheldon 273). It is the large 7, pointed 1 variety. So a great coin but not the rarer variety. I would not even clean it as it looks pretty good already. I don't think anyone could do more to it to make it any better. They may even make it look worse. It's a great coin as is. Congrats on that one.

Congrats on the awesome find! It is definitely a stamp over....but I think it is the common Large 7 over the 6. The expensive one is the small 7 over the 6......either way it is a great find.

super find for sure

SWEEEEETT!!!! Definitely looks like an over strike to me. Congrats on such a cool find:clapping:

Gotta love those super oldie's! Nice job finding that one.
