My etrac finds for my first month with it

Idprospector

New member
I went out about 6 times with the etrac actually hunting for stuff. I have had it for about a month now and went to about 15 different spots. This is the good stuff, I probably found $30 in quarters, $2 in nickles, $6 in dimes, and probably 100 pennies. I found another indian but I lost it somewhere at home. I know your not supposed to clean coins but I cleaned most of these, Some just with hot soapy water and a few got the brass brush taken to them. The value to me is just to have them and to enjoy them so there will be no future sales to worry about. The 8 sided coin is a chinese trigram charm of some kind, There is a Palmolive soap token, a 5 yen coin from 49-59, 3 nickles with Vs on them, two buffalos, two indian pennys, one gram 10K ring with aquamarine, silver class ring, fake gold plated class ring, dog tag, 3 religious charms, some german award or medal, two USA silver quarters, one canada silver quarter, one Merc dime, and 6 or 7 rosie silvers. The hardest thing for me to find is silver, I think I am missing somethin, I was told to mostly ignore the FE numbers and stick to tones and CO numbers, Ill give that a a shot. My name on this forum is Idprospector but on some others I use Idigid. Short for I Dig ID, as in Idaho. I would love to hear your tips and tricks on hunting with the etrac. Thanks. Idigid

Nice digs! You went out 6 times and you got all that? Looks like your finding silver just fine to me! Your are doing great!

Wait!!!!, What??? a brass brush???? :puke: Sorry I don't feel so good. lol Excellent finds for short time frame. Do you think I could talk you out of using a brass brush, just in case you loose them? Just asking.

Nice finds ldprospector,

I can probably cut back on the brass brush but the indians looked so nasty. I was very careful as not to wear away any details. I guess you can tell I cleaned them pretty good but I left most of the coins natural patina and removed the mineral build up from them. Iron from the soil seems to stick to them pretty good. I know finding even some silver is good but I found more silver with some cheaper detecters, bounty hunters and whites 5900. I know its not the detectors fault its just I havent spent enough time with it yet. I practiced in my back yard trying different things and settings and patterns and such, so I have spent more time with the machine than the 6 hunts. I did learn a trick I will share, If you have a target that you think is deep iron but it reads like a good target in to many directions and quick mask doesnt help you decide to dig or not just hold your coil about 4 feet above the target and then switch into pinpoint then slowly bring the coil down to the suspected target. If you hear a pulsing pinpoint sound a foot or so higher than the ground you probably have large iron. I did find some other items and of course a lot of trash but way less than I ever did with any other detector. I found some real old horse buckle dodad, some old copper nails, a few pull tabs, some misc copper bits and brass fitting items. I just love detecting and most all of this was done at night. I also have misplaced a canada coin or british coin I found the first day I had the etrac. Thanks for the comments, Idigid

You are doing great.

Holey Moley!!! I may have to go spend a month in Idaho!! :lmfao: Awesome finds. I'm like you - I'd rather clean them to enjoy them than worry about devaluing a few of them - although I would never use a brass brush (have gone through lots of toothbrushes though!)

Just Amazing

You ask for advise but you managed to do OUTSTANDING

Still it is well worth using the forum and viewing video on utube as well as reading Andy's book..a must!

Hey NebTrac, IO took them with my HTC EVO phone with a free camera ap called magnify. I will get some better pics of the palmolive token for those who have never seen one. I think they are pretty common in Idaho. Seems like you find a lot of thimbles. Maybe old timer idahoans didnt mend their clothes very often because I have never found one. I will post a pic of my finds from today in the morning. I used two tone ferrous for the first time and did pretty well. Idigid
