my first merc of 2022

Finding a mercury dime always makes my day and since they are rather rare in Canada, finding one makes it even better.

This is the result of my 2 last Saturday hunts. I didn't find as much silver as I'm used to but lots of copper. Apart from the 1918 large cent, 1929 penny and 1943 victory "copper" nickel shown here, I found at least 30 pennies from the 30's to the 60's that are not shown here for lack of space. The large cent surprised me because I found it in an area where the targets were few and far between and it's in an unusually good condition for its age. The merc is in a sad state and paper thin but I could still read the date (191. I also found another Canadian silver dime from 1956, a ski school badge from J Decat of Paris which from my research was made in the early 40's. Unfortunately the back pin is missing. The cross is common fare here (I must have found a dozen religious pendants through the years). I'm not sure about the dog tag. I was unaware that they even existed in 1935. In a big city like Montreal, it's possible that dogs had to be registered/licensed I guess.

I'm getting as much detection time in the woods in while it is still cool outside. Soon the mosquitoes and deer flies will be out and I will have to switch location to more open ground. HH everyone.

Nice digs! A Merc in Montreal? That's pretty cool! You said they are rare there, which makes sense. How often do you dig U.S. silver up there?

I agree - merc dimes will do that to me as well, congratulations on cool finds

Not much silver but lots of wheat pennies. I find about 1 wheat for 4 pennies from Canada from the same decades. In some parts, wheat pennies are rare. It depends on where the business trading was happening I guess. In the last years, I found about 4-5 USA silver dimes and one standing liberty quarter. I have a walking liberty on my bucket list but it might take a while !

Great hunt Mike, what kind of detector you running these days?

Thanks. I'm using the Nox 600 with the 6" coil exclusively since the day I got it. My silver coin count has increased tremendously since then. I meshed with this detector the instant I started using it. It's not perfect but I like it. I still have my Teknetics G2+ for the beach and my Nokta Fors CoRe. I sold everything else.
