Hi everyone,
Yesterday, I was able to get out in the morning for about an hour and a half before the rain set in. I decided to begin revisiting areas I had hit with my previous detector since I know the E-Trac has more depth for the goodies. Today I hit a portion of a sidewalk strip next to our old city Library that I had pulled some Wheats from in the past with the other detector.
I'm running my E-Trac in multi-tone conductive, using a slightly modified "Coins" pattern, operating with Manual Sensitivity set at 20. If I let the machine run in Auto +3, the sensitivity would run in the 12 to 16 range. With the sensitivity set at manual 20, I get some falsing, but I'm learning to better interpret the differences between the good signals and the false ones and hopefully gain some depth at the same time. It seemed to work for me today as the Merc was pulled from an honest 8 inches of soil (my deepest recovery yet!). The tone was a bit scratchy and a little broken, but repeatable in both directions and the display had a fairly consistent CO number in the 43 to 45 range. The FE number was bouncing pretty much all over the place. To be honest, I dug it because of the fairly consistent tone and didn't put too much weight on the numbers since the target was indicating 3/4 or so down the depth scale. Additionally, I recovered two rusty Wheats ('44-D and '45-S) which were 6 and 7 inches deep and another 12 pieces of shallow clad.
I'm looking forward to revisiting all my previous sites with this machine. Like I've seen mentioned on here before, the E-Trac makes old sites new again!
Thanks for looking and good luck on your next hunt! (And for those staring out the window looking at the white stuff or frozen ground, I hope your winter is a short one!)
