Today I hunted a farm house that was built in the 1800's. A friend owns it and invited me to hunt the property. He was as excited about the hunt as I was. This is the first time I have ever hunted a yard. I found two Mercury dimes (1929 & 1935), several wheat cents and some modern change. I also found a nice metal "JP" rose tag and a bottle. The bottle is very cool and the color of the glass is green. It is round but one side is flat. It also has writing on it. My detector found it because it still has the metal screw cap on it. It's an old ant trap. Imagine that. I've never seen anything like it. The cap has a hole in it for ants to enter. They go in but don't come back out. My friend and his wife followed me everywhere as I hunted and were excited about the finds. They were so excited they decided to keep everything!!! lol. That's ok. I still had a good time. If anyone knows anything about the bottle ant trap, please share what you know. I couldn't find anything on the net. I included some pics from the hunt and a short video.

My observations after hunting a yard for the first time:
There was a lot less trash in the ground compared to the parks I hunt. All I heard most of the time was the sound of the threshold. Targets hit hard and I really liked that. There was only one small area where I encountered nulling from iron. I also learned to dig everything because you never know what you're going to find - like that antique bottle ant trap. Man, that was a cool find! It's a bummer that I went home empty handed after two hours of work, but I did have a good time with some great people. So I guess another thing I learned is that when you are given permission to hunt a property...it doesn't necessarily mean you get to keep what you find. Everything belongs to the owner because it was all found on his property. I'm also not used to having people follow me for an entire hunt. So I was being polite and stopped hunting frequently to talk. But I was never fully engaged in the hunt. As I got in my car to leave, my friend's wife reached into her pocket and held out her empty palm toward me and laughingly said, "Here's your tip - two quarters!" That was a reference to the two clad quarters I had found. Jeesh, I didn't even get to keep the clad. lol! My final thought is...give me the solitude of a park any day of the week!
Happy Hunting!
