My Oldest Silver Ever!

Hunted a local school last night - original high school was put up there in 1865 - it burned down in 1916, that's when the current building was constructed. Very small front yard, the rest is all paved over. I had to run TTF the entire time because of all the iron in the ground (probably from the older school). Found 6 wheat pennies, a '41 nickel, a '45P war nickel and - an 1816 shilling! It's worn and beat up, but the date is clear. I didn't know what it was but saw the (ugly) bust of King George III and brushed away the dirt to see the date - I was floored - packed up and came home.

Great find and use of TTF!

What a GREAT hunt - congrats !

way to go !!!

What's up doc? Hey, now I know where you were hunting. I had always thought that where the memorial is now, used to be school property, but found out that it was really a park. when they scraped the grass to build the memorial ( oh, the city gave the park to the veteran's) we were in 7th. heaven. I.H.'s galore, 2 centers, barbers of all denominations, tokens, seateds, and where you were up by the school building, it is fulla iron and aluminum. I have dug a brass window crank that still had charred wood attached to it. If you want to know a lot more of the history of this school, contact me. Along the back of the wall, there used to be a gazebo where a brass band played back in the 1800's, I think the cannon is sitting there now, ask me where the old town dump used to be, I can show you.........Larry 'aka' ....NGE

Congratulations on your "newest" oldest silver! Thanks for the pictures.
