My take on the VX3

Rob, I understand the concentric has its place, but I'd sure argue the fact that the vast majority use a DD as their standard coil. We don't have any beach's here in Kansas.

I think I saw a poll one time that suggested at least 88% of people used a DD coil as their standard coil.

I just thought it odd that White's chose this coil after all the flack they got for putting out the 300's with the 12" concentric. A lot of people were confused then why not a DD.
 
All the flack was more about having a 12" coil being supplied as a general use coil (That extra two to 2+ inches of diameter is kinda pushing it.) I do use a DD a lot for the separation it gets, as this is one of the three "frontiers" where "new" targets can be found. The other two are depth and EMI.....these are major strengths that the concentric does do well....concentric rules at times. It is a very good coil to have, is a true multipurpose and will be around for a long, long time I think.
 
All I said was it is the coil of choice on the beach and it is. I'm sure for a price difference a dealer will make you a package with the D2. I don't market produces for Whites. IMHO they are trying to provide a cheaper choice to a deep and now proven detector. IMHO the only people who need to worry about deleted features are people who are going to buy the VX3. People who don't use a Spectra or have a V3i shouldn't even need to comment, why would they care?
 
My only concern is because I am a White's fan and I just see the same old remarks soon to surface. I love my DFX but, in my opinion, putting the 9.5 concentric was a big mistake. All the complaints were about a lack of performance. Put a 6x10 DD on the DFX and problem solved and that is exactly what most have done. Performance isn't just about depth but coverage as well. The Super Spider 12 is a great detector for a limited condition. Again, something a DD would have solved. Cost effective? Is a concentric coil really that much cheaper than a DD? Not when you buy one. I see the DD as more a general purpose coil and the concentric as a limited coil.

Hey I'm still excited about the VX3 and will be getting one as soon as I can get some dealer to shoot me that "introductory price" I been hearing about.
 
Your opinion is noted. The intro price? I've read the manual and it is the best one yet. It would have to be with no on board manual. Really, if people need help operating one, I'm ready to help.

Discussing the marketing, I'm really not interested. I leave people to make their own decisions on what to buy. I knew about the VX3 but didn't need to be the first one to leak the news. Again as I said, this is like the M6/MXT, I had the MXT and preferred it, but many people opt or the M6.

Some things like the coil can be fixed, some like two missing filters and no best data can't. Some people don't need them for their type of hunting. For some peoples type of hunting the V3i is like using a backhoe to plant a petunia.

No doubt it's a brainchild of either marketing or accounting departments. Fortunately for us, the 9.5 is the best all around, all condition coil White's offers. Be very thankful they didn't put the 12 inch horseshoe on it like they did the DFX300 and the MXT Pro.
 
Rob jumped all over another poster for bringing up the VX3 before it had been announced but fell right in with Larry when he posted about it before it had been announced by White's so I guess I will stay with less hostile forums.Ken

Oh no.......:cry:

The 950 coil last night worked very quiet and found a pull tab and a penny in an area I had been over with the v3i a hundred times. No complaints so far with this coil choice.
 
Sorry to see you go Ken. Have a good time when you finally find your spot. Actually he talked to me and asked to have his post removed. I told him there was not a problem if you read my reply. We are actually cool with each other. After people posted all the information including the price, and features I guess the cat was out of the bag. There is no need to start trouble.

And you think this is hostile? :rofl: Rob was 100% right to wait until the release but it was my call to post, and when, what was getting to be common knowledge about the VX3. I guess I should feel honored that you used your 7th post in two years with us to inform us that you will not stick around. :wave: Bye.
 
Was able to give the VX3 a test run. Talk about quick to navigate through the menu and adjust! It is going to be easy to get a handle on and it does run smooth. After learning the V3i...this machine is going to be a snap to help explain to people. (Have a feeling this machine is going to be replacing a lot of lesser machines too.) Funny thing...as much as I enjoyed it...our existing V3i sure is a wonderful machine folks!!! (A marvel really.)

Concentric coils definitely go a bit deeper in the Southern NJ sandy soil!

I agree, but depth between the 9.5 concentric and a 11" DD are about the same but, the DD has much better coverage, better target separation and handle ground minerals better.

I don't think the E-Trac would have made near as big of impact on the market if it had a 10" concentric coil. Just my observation.

I understand the choice to use the 9.5 concentric was a cost issue and thats what the VX3 is all about. A more affordable alternative to the V3i.
 
Other than that it looks pretty good.

While I understand that White's has their reasons for going with the 950 instead of the larger DD, I think it will hurt VX3 sales (at least for me and Southwind above). Sure I could buy another coil, but I'm not going to pay an extra $200+ to get more coverage and better separation that should have been included in the first place. If the Minelab Safari didn't ship with the same DD coil as the E-Trac I wouldn't have bought it.

I have used them both back to back and the 950 gets separation on targets of penny size with equal regularity. Smaller targets at greater depth will remain to be seen. The 950 also runs so much quieter. This was all about making a machine that was simpler with less falsing.
 
I personally believe their is a market for the VX3. I have worked with people who having owned their V3i for 2 years have never gone pass the factory programs. Again, I'm sure if working with a local dealer a package could be made that would include the D2 instead of the 950.

I hunted with the MXT with the 950 coil it came with until I tested the 10" Excelerator for Kellyco. I made many good finds with the 950. I think the people who buy the VX3 will be happy.
