Myrtle Beach?

The family is heading up to the Myrtle Beach, SC area soon on a vacation. I usually try to take my detector with me, but I have never been to a South Carolina beach. So I have a question or two.

Most importantly, are there any laws or local regulations I might need to be aware of for the Myrtle Beach areas?

I know SC laws prohibit detecting in state parks, but are the public beaches & area "tot lots" fair game?

Any tips you old salts care to give an inland hunter who will once again be out of his normal element? I'll be hunting mainly in the "beach blanket" zone and th edge of the wet as I'm using a XL Pro, but I do have a wide selection of coils. This will be the first time I have had a chance to try a bigfoot on a beach. I have some expierence the effects of "black sand" at other beaches before, but I'm not a beach hunter by any means.

Thanks in advance...

I'm not in MB right now but I'll try and help you out alittle. I'm usually there from Oct 1st until March and do most of my hunting from 2ND av pier to 14 av pier. You can also go south from 2ND av to the swash and further down at low tide. 2nd av has free parking and pretty good chili dogs on the pier in case you get alittle hungry after (as my wife puts it ) swinging my shaft for 5 or 6 hrs. There are quite a few parking areas up and down Ocean Blvd but most are metered and its around $6.00 a day for parking. You might find parking on the street that aren't metered. By the time I get there in Oct they pull all the meters and its free. If your staying at one of the hotels on Ocean Blvd you'll have a good shot up and down the beach. Hopefully the sand will have moved out when your there. Hunt the low pockets that are holding water as the tide goes out and the hard shelled areas in the water. I tried early in the morning before the people started hitting the beach and then 2 or 3 hours at low tide. Look for the holes that go from knee deep to waist deep and you should do pretty good.Hope this helps alittle and Good Luck. Oh ya if your looking for a great prime rib try Drunken Jacks in Murrells Inlet..........

Thanks. Those sure sound like good tips both for eating and swining. I think we may be staying at the Seawatch Condo's.

OK your real close to the Dunes Resort condo's. I think about 60th st north. You can walk across Ocean Blvd and your on the beach. I pulled a beautiful Opal ring with 8 small diamonds in the wet sand right at the Dunes. Heres another thing about the Dunes. Between the 2 towers is a dirt parking lot,its city owned with no meters and access to the beach. You can also go from one tower to the other from the lot. The one tower has an out side pool and the other has all kinds of water stuff for the kids. I've taken the grandkids there for the day and other locals do the same. They also have a breakfast buffet thats not bad and might be the place to go for breakfast on a weekend when other places are real crowded. Oh yes, then theres Marvinsright on the Ocean board walk south of 14 av pier cold beer and dogs. I guess I got off of the where do I detect thing a little didn't I....

Thanks for the tips (detecting and eating). Gotta cover all the bases:drinking:

This will be our first trip to Myrtle Beach so it's all new to me.

According to my gps there is going to be a minus tide from about the 28th for a week and a half and that is over the 4th of July and I plan on being there , this will be my first time for beach hunting but everything looks good for this time frame. Maybe we could hook up and do some talking .
