Mystery Ring

New member
I found this ring today in 4" of ground. Target number was 12-41. It weighs about .15 oz.
No inscription inside. Looks in good shape, but I'm not sure if it's 10 carat gold or what ?
Found about 28 clad coins with it. Hard to find silver around here lately.

Sweet looking ring.
Thanks for posting,
Bunker

Just ordered mine last night. Looking forward to seeing how it works.

Looks like someones wedding band 14K more than likely. Kinda looks a little like mine from 1967.

Nice Sentimental find...

bunker314,

My 8"x6" sef coil is my best coil. I use it most of the time because there is
so much iron and junk around here. I use my pro coil when I'm in open fields
with little iron. Even our beaches and ball fields here have too much iron and junk.
The 8"x6" coil is very easy to pinpoint and pull out the goodies from the junk and
goes deep within 1"-2" of the pro coil and is a lot lighter than the pro coil.
I really like it.

if it rings up at 12-41 out of the gold highly unlikely it is gold. Is there any markings at all inside band? I think it might be either copper with gold plating or silver with gold plating

No markings inside at all. As you said, it could be either copper with gold plating or silver with gold plating.
I don't know why it doesn't have markings inside because it's nice looking and fairly heavy plus it's well made.
Oh well.

Prep1957,

Well, I agree with you concerning the 6x8 coil. I just can't believe
how good this coil is.
I wouldn't consider it a small or a medium sized coil, it's somewhere
in between. So, the 8" length covers a fair amount of ground when swinging it
yet it's small enough to get into tight areas and is great at separating the good
finds from the bad ones which is what I really like about it.
The depth is fantastic for that sized coil.

At least its not a pull tab!:clapping:

Just a bit more on the ring.....at 12/41 I am thinking..... maybe.... gold plated based more on the lack of a stamp than on the TID as one out of 20 rings I have checked was a 12/42 for a stamped 14K 2.8 gram band. There is zero predictability as to where the TID numbers will fall as far as gold content and size is concerned IMO. The range I have recorded varies from a 12/03 for a 1g 18K small ring to 12/42 for the ring above. I also have a white gold 14K 4.1g that came in at 12/03, and a 14k 4.2g yellow gold that is a 12/18...why???? The gold content is the same, size nearly the same, so that leaves the 35% non-gold content as the variable. If you want to find gold go to the beach and dig every non iron signal, thousands of them, and surprise! Some day soon I will post a picture with the rings and their TID, gold content and weight. A small sample I know but it will depress those of you looking for a sure fire way to separate gold from trash. Terry, San Diego.
